Default Phone Call Log-How do I change number of calls logged

Please Login to Remove!

I switched from a Treo 600 not long ago and my Treo stored every call I made. I could go back more than a year by simply scrolling through the list and looking at my call history. I noticed on my 8703e it barely logs more than a few days of calls. Does anyone know how to change the number of calls the device will log?

The maximum it will display/hold is 20 individual callers

No--if you look at Messages, View Folder, Phone Call Log you will see a complete history from as long as you have had the device unless you cleared the log or a specific phone number's history. All calls placed or received will be there. The log in the phone app only displays the last 20.

Ditto, same here about learning new things. Those awful long call logs are what make backup/restores take forever.

4.1 handheld for the 8700 may be different. I never cleared the logs and it only shows 7 days of calls ( was less than 20 calls ). I'm Not sure if the software update cleared the logs or the use of backup clears the log.

Those long call logs can really tie up an Enterprise Activation as well as take up memory space. It's a good idea to clear them occasionally. From the message list as stated above in the Phone call logs folder highlight a date and click "delete prior." I only keep a month at most. What use are they prior to that?

4.1 code for the 8700 is the same. A software update will only clear the log if you don't restore the call logs. I always clean out call logs prior to any software update so I don't have the problem with hung Enterprise Activations as I stated above.

Default Thank you

Thanks for the help. If I go into messages and "View Folder" and then select "Phone Call Logs" it does have all the calls for one month. For example today it shows all calls made since April 22. Yesterday it was since April 21. That is helpful but I wonder if I can expand the call log history. A good point about not keeping too many since it does slow things down.

I don't think so... I have 30 days worth in my log as well (cuts off at Apr 22). I know you can set Messages > Options > General Options > Keep Messages: to 15, 30, 60, 90 or forever, but I don't think that affects the call logs, only your messages.

can you limit the size of the call log on the BES?
i've been doing activations for folks with older devices, and the call log is over 1000 entries, making the Activation take hours.

I'd like to truncate the call log to 100, before I activate.

Default Phone Log - No. of calls logged

Thanks JSanders for the information on how to view phone logs that go back further than shown in the phone app (which on mine only shows 7 days worth).

I wonder why the BB folks don't include a FAQ or Q/A about this topic onboard the BB? This is just one of several topics their FAQ library is lacking. Maybe the reason is that they're focusing their attention on improving the quality of their phone hardware, another sore need. But that's another topic.

Ok back to the original question, is there anyway to increase the call logs to list more calls? Figure it has to be a simple registry hack somewhere that can do this.

If not, how can one make an icon on the home screen to list the phone call logs without having to go thru all the steps to view folders.

Hack what registry? BlackBerrys have a registry?

You only need to two steps to view the full phone log:
Step 1 - go to Messages folder
Step 2 - Alt + P

I have never heard of a phone log icon, but maybe there is some Theme ability there. Just never heard of it.
