Default The Bold And Gmail

Please Login to Remove!

Hi all,

I haven't had a BB in a few years, hence my lack of posts, so I'm a bit out of the loop! But I'm getting a new one very soon, and I think I'm going to wait for the Bold. I doubt my post relates specifically to Bold, but I wasn't sure, so go easy on me!

My last BB phone was the 7100t, and I used it mostly for voice, texting, and checking my exchange email. I know that a lot of phones these days can get other email services, like in my case, gmail, sent directly to the phone... can other BB's like the Bold? I see that it will do things like imap and other email services, but I don't know how that directly relates to gmail.
Sorry, reading what I just wrote sounds so dumb, but I can't think of the correct terminology. Basically, I just want gmail sent to my phone without having to check it first. Clear as mud?

Thanks in advance!

Ok, nevermind. Someone clued me in that I was trying to ask about "push". Once I searched for gmail and push, I found a few posts like: http://www.blackberryforums.com/gene...available.html

So it looks like all BB's can do this now? In which case I wish I was getting one right now!

I got Gmail on my Blackberry, works fine. Only thing, when I "send" something, I get a copy back. You have to go to your BIS, enter a filter that doesn't push emails from your email address. Maybe the BOLD and the BIS 2.5 fixes this, but really a small thing. Gmail works FINE with Blackberries.

Wirelessly posted (8300)

Add a filter in your bis box. This is partly due to the way gmail threads mail. Add a filter to not forward any messages from urself I believe. Check the faq that has a walk thru.

Good tips, thanks guys! Much appreciated!

I ended up getting an 8310 today, due to the rumors today about it being delayed for ATT. I just got a refurb and I'll get the Bold when it comes out.

Thank again!

Good move! I'm one of those guys that can't wait either. Keep the 8310 as a backup or resell it when the Bold is available. No telling if there will be yet another delay too, and being without a Blackberry is just wrong.

(This doesn't really belong in the Bold forum anymore, so feel free to move it if necessary).

One last question: I've set up the gmail with both the webpage and the gmail.com/app. It seems that "push" only works with the webpage version, is that true? I much prefer the gmail app because it more closely mimicks the actual gmail.com.

Thanks!

Push is where the BIS, Blackberry Internet Service, goes and looks for the email from the account you set up, then pushes it down to you handset. Then when you reply, you send it out. So yes, the "webpage" which IS you BIS, is the push part of the whole thing. The Gmail app is nice, but I would give push email more time, that way you don't have to keep checking and you get email almost in real time.

Excellent explanation, thanks!

Not on Gmail it won't. Never does it for me, others reported that on here. Maybe with BIS 2.5 Gmail will fully sync up.

Interesting, somebody made a topic about it here and theirs to would not sync. I wonder it is Blackberry specific?

GMail and BIS 2.x supports wireless delete reconciliation.

I understand it does, but MINE will not. I don't know why. Got latest OS, I am wondering if the Blackberry I have has something to do with it. I doesn't bother me that bad, I just go and clean up stuff on the Gmail box, got almost 7 gigs of space left.

go to the inbox then options > email reconciliation and see what you have it set up as. Also are you using pop or imap?

Yep, that check has always been on. I had POP3 on, and when I setup my Blackberry IMAP was turned on and POP on my account. I figured BIS did that.
