Wirelessly posted (Mozilla/4.0 (compatible; MSIE 6.0; Windows 98; PalmSource/hspr-H102; Blazer/4.0) 16;320x320)

I am sad to say I'm on a Treo with Cingular. I want to make the switch to the 8700 when it comes out with T-Mobile. The price for the data plan and customer service are great, but what is anyone's experience with coverage mainly Metro Detroit?

T-Mobile has a really nice street level coverage map on their site to find coverage. You may also want to check the T-Mobile USA forum at www.howardforums.com for user feedback.

T-Mo is great in Detroit. I have no complaints about coverage at all. Just moved from downtown to Dearborn, coverage is still very good

Anyone know when the 8700 may be available from Verizon? I have read there would be an EV-DO capable version released but no word on when.

Any speculation on the color scheme that Tmobile is leaning towards? Also, is there any information or indication that there might be different form factors for the different carriers (similar to the 7100 series)

Yes again Cingular has 90-day exclusive in USA that started November 1st. Verizon 8700 should not be earlier than June, 06.

Just an update, FWIW: Just saw my T-Mobile territory rep again yesterday, and he is STILL saying a January '06 release for the 8700t.

Now, of course, it's always possible that he just hasn't been given more up-to-date info yet.

It is important that the CPU in the BlackBerry can keep up with the increased data transfer. Just like early 486's and Pentium I original's could not run web browsing at full speed with Cable Internet. Often to the point where a slower 256 Kbps DSL connection on a Pentium IV or Athlon, is much faster than a 486 on a 1.5 Mbps connection when trying to view a website such as www.cnn.com

The speed differential won't quite be 3X -- unless you're planning on using tethering (which doesn't use much CPU processing). People like me alreaady know that 1X is faster than GPRS, however, the GPRS 7280 browses the web much faster than the CDMA 7750. (To CDMA's credit, the 7250 browses noticeably faster than the GPRS 7280).

Maybe I'm missing something, but whats to stop us from simply buying a locked Cingular 8700, not activating service, and getting Tmobile to unlock the device and get the proper IMEI # etc? They've told me they'd be happy to do that for me... Seems pretty easy to me...

Someone correct me if I am wrong but I was under the impressions that only the carrier can unlock their own phones, in other words getting T-Mo to unlock a Cingular wont fly.

Default It would be nice if Tmo gets the black version!

I wonder if they will get the same color as Cingular or black?

What I do not understand is that it is after all called a blackberry, and I do not know why the different carriers decided to make them blue and grey.

Well Iden from Nextel is being phased out, so I really believe that Rim is not going to waste their time on a technology that will be disappearing. I think what will happen is that all of Nextel's customers will be moved over to Sprint and then you will have it there. What a better incentive to have everyone move over, eh?
