Why do bblackberries take so long to boot up? It seems to get longer and longer everytime.

Yeah. Mine takes a minimum of 3 minutes.

It may have something to do with the amount
of free memory or apps you have loaded but that
does seem a bit long.

Hence why I asked the question. I want to know exactly what's going on, so that maybe I can find a way to shorten it. Everytime I install or uninstall something I have to wait forever to use it again.

I turned off "contect compression" and it seems to have cut the time down slightly.

Its closer to 25MB. But that's still less than half the available which could be why.

Old emails, logs, stuff you're not using, etc.

I don't keep much email stored. I could delete what I have, I have about four themes installed and I have a lot of ringtones. Definetly more than I need. I don't know how to delete them. That's where most of the storage went.

25MB should be enough; that's a lot more than 2.5MB.

I suppose it could be your ringtones or themes or some other program that is trying to startup and can't. Maybe look in the log?

I had a similar problem with long boot time on my old 7230 after I did a system software upgrade.

Wiping it and doing a fresh install solved that problem and seemed to work a lot better than upgrading the existing OS.

Could be. I might try a fresh install, but would I have the same problem after restoring my backup?

Dunno...I didn't do a restore.

BTW, I don't know much about themes, but maybe you should try a different one.

I suspect that loading the theme is part of the boot cycle.

I'll try it now. I'll wipe it, and start from scratch. I wont restore it, and see how long it takes. Then maybe i'll restore it and see how long it takes, but then i'll probably wipe it ad start all over again.

Well, I wiped it and reloaded the Cingular OS. Doesn't seem any faster. Still haven't done a restore. I don't think I'm going too. Now I have 44289844 Bytes free. Big difference after only installing one theme and one ringtone.

ya my bad carried the decimal over wrong. Thats wierd. Mine seems to take a minute or so to boot.

How often do you install or uninstall stuff. This only happens from a cold boot so unless you are doing this all the time, I just do not see how this could be a problem.

Not a problem at all. Just curious as to what it's doing that it takes so long, and to are if I could find a way to shorten it, definetly not a problem though.
