Default Opinion on Cingular 7100 vs. 7290? Upgrading from 7280.

Please Login to Remove!

Just dropped my 7280 in the water while giving my daughter a tub. It doesnt take to water like she does! I liked the 7280 and have been very happy with it. Like that the 7290 has better lighting and bluetooth. A friend has the 7100t and it has the worse mic although I like the looks but I have never used it. When tlaking to him on the phone it is so hard to hear him, jsut static almost everytime he talks. For those you have know, any thoughts? I am leaning towards the 7100g because its 'newer' but that may not be a good reason. The 7280 was through work on BES.

Thanks for the help.

There is no static on the 7100t provided you use OS 3.8. I have the 7100t with OS 3.8 and love it. I had the 7290. For me the 7100t is much better but I agree the audio is not as good as the 7290 althought the 7100t with OS 3.8 seems to be louder than the 7290.

Basically, it's six of one and half a dozen of the other.

Apparently, there are new Blackberries coming out soon so I would wait. One is an update of the 7100 (the 7130?) and the other an update of the 7200 series (the 8700 or "Electron").

Jibi: As you can see, here is another report of static on the 7100.

Problem is I cant wait. This is my work phone and pager is my lifeline. My 7280 is dead!

My work just upgraded last week to 4.0. Any issues running 7100g on 4.0?

The static on his 7100t is so bad I will not talk to him on his phone.

7100t with OS 3.8 is fantastic. You can find 3.8 searching this forum.

The 7290 is great too but not as great in my view. My biggest problem with the 7290 was the escape button which I kept on inadvertently hitting and cutting off callers, but if you have had a 7280 you know about that issue. Also the ringer and message tones on the 7290 were way to quiet for me. On ther other hand, the 7290 has an excellent keyboard and a faster processor which is very useful when web browsing.

The 7100t floats in bathwater. The 7290 sinks.

It seems to be hit or miss with the 7100g on 4.0. I'm on my 2nd one, and they both have TERRIBLE voice quality to those you're talking to. You can hear them fine, but they can't hear you. I pray daily for a fix.
