Sorry...
Hi what is a Blackberry data plan? Is it different from GPRS? I got a blackberry from ebay too and would like to try some net apps on it. I'm on easymobile which has GPRS and works fine with my windows mobile devices.

Default Any new info?

Hey everyone!

OK I'm new at this....
I'm having simular issues with my 8703R with Bell Mobility.
It's running version 4.1 and connects to Yahoo messenger no problem... but I am trying to access a cool golf program through Wireless 18. I follow the instructions to enter the following details:

WAP GPRS APN: internet.com
WAP Gateway IP: 207.236.197.199
WAP GAtewat Port: 9203

But... no luck.
I can see that Bell Mobility has been a problem but the guy at Wireless 18 says some Bell Mobilty guys have had success... but not all.

Any suggestions?????

Thanks,
Chuck

Guys may be someone got this problem too?

I installed IM+ , did all the settings explained here...everything works as a charm but ICQ! Can't get it to work, saying "can't connect" and that's it...

IM+ set to TCP Direct connect, seems that this is the only settings that IM+ works fast at. Any idea?

A friend has told me that Blackberries arn't compatible with the GPRS connections we use on other phones. Apparantly you need to find an operator supplying a blackberry service and then your device automatically gets the TCP settings to use GPRS like connections for IM and web browsers.

I have a 7290 on Cingular (orange SIM) and I have two questions:
I noticed that the userid and password are typed in CAPS... do they need to be typed in caps on the device?
I've seen both WAP... and ISP... as apn and userides... which is currently correct?
TIA,
Wayne

Default BlackBerry Brand

Hello BB-user,
I have used the note from Mark Rejhon in order to change my BlackBerry 8700g OS to the actual version, thanks for that, it worked out perfectly. But, one of the aims I followed has been to change the brand my BB is designed for (T-Mobile in my case)! I tried to upgrade to an OS Version from a different provider, but it did not change. Is there any possibility to run a GPRS Browser with a different SIM Card?

Thanks,
REM

You can not change the branding on a BB; even if you wipe it out, the branding remains.

Question wap.voicestream.com not in DNS?

For T-Mobile, the list at the top says to use "wap.voicestream.com" for the APN but my BlackBerry Pearl apps that use TCP/IP are complaining that the name isn't resolvable. I tried NSLOOKUP and there is no DNS entry for wap.voicestream.com. I tried a lookup using the DNS tools at www .dnsstuff.com and it didn't recognize wap.voicestream.com either.

What should I configure the APN for T-Mobile to be?

Hi all

I have a Pearl and my provider is Cingular. The setting it came with for the APN was wap.cingular. With this, I couldn't get Opera nor Ramble to work. I changed it to isp.cingular and now everything works great. I didn't call Cingular before doing this though...Should I be expecting any charges on my bill for doing this? I want to make sure I don't run up a $100 pay-per-kb data charge or something ridiculous like that. This is my first blackberry and I haven't gotten my first bill yet, so I don't know exactly what data plan i have. I believe it is the non-BES unlimited for $29.

Thanks

Default BSNL India

Hi,

I'm using BSNL network in India, which does not offer BB service. I tried the APN 'bsnlsouth' which used to work with Nokia. I'm using a 8700g with OS ver 4.1. I've the IPPP & BrowserConfig service books installed through BES. Do I need to download a direct TCP stack or any other service book to enable direct TCP/IP.

Thanks
Sonu

Sonu, welcome to the forums,
I'm pretty certain if the network doesn't offer BB service you can't get any data services on your BB. The BB must be on a BB data plan. Other data plans won't work because the info has to be routed through RIM's system.

The data does not HAVE to be routed through Blackberry's system. If your provider can create a service book that would allow you to connect to the GPRS service, you can buy the cheapest data plan and still be able to connect to the Internet. The biggest limitation of the Blackberry is that you cannot manually edit the service books.
