Talking BB Re-Architecture Question

Please Login to Remove!

Hi people,
(our mail system is Exchange 2003)
I am going to redo our BES environment but have some concerns and I am wondering if anyone else is running my proposal in production. And if so, what kind of issues (if any) do you come across?

Here is what I am planning.
Build two new BES 4.0 servers that will host 1000 users each.
Build another BES just for the attachment server and point the new BES' to this machine.
Build a seperate SQL 2000 server and have the two new BES' point to the same DB on the server.

Being that cost is always an issue, I am thinking about not going with the seperate attachment server. Anyone have experience with this kind of setup?
Any kind of latency, issues, or quirks? Difficult to run hotfies?

Any input is much appreciated.

Thanks,

Boob

With 2k users a extra server with a bes license is going to be a waterdrop in the ocean cost wise.

We dont see systems that size here for good and for worse but from what i can read and see having the router on a seperate machine / or on the attatchment server dont seems like a bad idea

just remember to buy a cpu license for sql

Hi FlemmingRiis,

Yeah but management always prefers what we can do without. I have never segregated the functionality like that before. Since I inhereited the BES recently, i noticed that we have a lot of perf issues since all three of our servers are all-in-oners.

purchasing SQL is a none issue for me since we will actully be reducing the amount of SQL servers we currently have.

I guess it will be trial-by -fire after the initial tests.

Thanks,

BB
