Question Unlocked Vodafone UK 7100v - Lost WAP Browser

Please Login to Remove!

Hi,
As per the subject line, I have a Vodafone 7100v, originally bought and
used by me from new on the Vodafone network. After the contract ended,
I unlocked it and switched to easyMobile until I decided where to go
next. As the phone is quad-band, it's perfect for me to use on my
visits to Canada, but whilst in the UK I need GPRS / WAP access so I
can access such things as train times on the move. However, since I
moved from Vodafone, the browser has disappeared from the device, and
when I try to access it via the 'convenience' key, it tells me "Your
device does not currently have any Browser Configuration Service Book
Entries. Please contact your service provider to enable the Browser on
your device.".

I then upgraded the software to Vodafone UK 4.1.0.292, taking the option to clear everything off (after a back-up of course). This did give me a nice pretty theme, but still no browser. Now when I press the convenience key, I get nothing. EasyMobile certainly can't help me, but I have a few questions:

1) If I took the phone back to a Vodafone store, would they be able to
add the service book back onto the device, for a fee of course?

2) Are there any external programs I could use to gain access to WAP?

3) If I did a restore from the desktop software, from the time BEFORE I
unlocked the phone, would that restore the service book to the device?

Alternatively, if I purchased a Rogers PAYG SIM for use whilst I am in
Canada, would this allow me to get an updated service book when I place
it in, or OTA through a call to Rogers perhaps?

If anyone can help I'd be grateful as this phone otherwise meets my
needs for all I require it to do at this time (a phone I can use anywhere, with a bluetooth headset and basic calling functionality). Thanks for taking
the time to read this.

Wirelessly posted (Cingular 7130c: BlackBerry7130/4.1.0 Profile/MIDP-2.0 Configuration/CLDC-1.1 VendorID/102)

If you don't have a blackberry data plan then you won't be able to get the browser.

Ok....we'll start with some basics. You had a vodaphone device and moved to another carrier. easyMobile is a prepaid carrier and service, from what I can tell. Therefore, you wont be able to access any data from your blackberry.

easyMobile doesnt sell Blackberry's or have the service for Blackberry's, so they cant send you your service books. As for Vodaphone, going to them wont do any good, because again, you have to have the service in order to have the service book to get data.

Even getting a prepaid SIM from Vodaphone wouldnt work, because most carriers do not have Blackberry service for prepaid accounts. I am sure the Vodaphone doesnt either. The only way that your going to get your service books is to join another carrier (or go back to vodaphone) and get a post-paid service with a blackberry data plan.

Darn, just as I suspected. Still, you can't blame a man for trying I suppose. Does anyone know of any cheap quad-band phones around at all?

I'm also trying to get a 7130v working on Easymobile. I'm new to blackberry please explain why I need a "blackberry dataplan". Easymobile has GPRS and the APN details are as follows:

Access Pont: data.uk
User name: user
Password: one2one

However even when these settings are entered in the TCP section, the 7130v continues to say data connection refused, and gprs is lower case. Which I have read means gprs isn't connected. Even tried rebooting and removing the battery to no avail.

Do you need to flash it with a certain ROM to allow the TCP (APN) settings to be overriden? I think I read somewhere that the TCP settings were ignored on certain ROMs and it just uses what the operator requires. My 7130v arrived with the TCP section blank. Why the hell is is called TCP settings anyway when clearly APN is to do with GPRS. I'd like to use the software for some java apps that connect to the web, don't care about email. Could someone please shed some light on this, thanks!
