SYNC error
Please Login to Remove!
Looking for help: all of a sudden my BB8330 will not sync w/ my Outlook 2007 It starts, but then I get a window that says "Unable to complete. Unknown error".
I rebooted, reconfigured, default configured, and even reloaded the software to Download manager...any suggestions.
Thanks in advance.

Run sync again and note where it errors out. Then go into the backup module, select the advanced functions, and clear the database in which the sync crashed. For example, if sync crashed on the calendar, clear the calendar. Then run sync again and select re-sync on the calendar. See if that fixes problem.

You can also view the sync log, that might point out were it is failing.
(feel free to post the log if you want.)

Thanks to both of you...but no luck. I did both things. It ended up deleting all the info on my BB, but my last restore was 6/4, the last time it went seemlessly. There did not seem to be any errors in the sync log (nothing stood out). I get an "unexpected error", or "process stopped" while trying to update my info. The only thing I have linked is my calendar, so it has to be somewhere in there....I do not know if it is software, or software for the BB, or compatability. All I can tell you is it was perfect on 6/4...i returned from a trip on 6/8 and it has not worked. Would a software update be needed? How would I know?
The error messages are non-descript...that does not help. Could it be an issue w/ my BB itself? It is new, and not abused or anything.
Sorry for asking....this is all new to me after recently making the move to BB.

What version of the desktop manager is this?
Might be worth trying another version.

still frustrated
it is the latest version....4.7 I think...downloaded fresh yesterday, same problem. "Unknown error"...everything seems fine except it will not sync. Outlook is good, phone works, etc...the only thing I wanted on this phone was to sync w/ my calendar.

Trying another version of desktop manager isn't going to hurt.
I think you need to take a look at the data. On your desktop organizer, change the calendar view so that you see the data in spreadsheet/tabular format. Look for any strange characters, any empty rows, and delete. And then re-sync one-way computer to blackberry.
In the future, I you could also inspect the blackberry data by doing using ASCII Importer/Exporter setting to export the calendar or whatever to a spreadsheet and then look over the data.
In this instance I thought was just easier to delete the database and re-sync. But it appears the trouble may be with the database on the desktop organizer. At least if another version of DM dosn't work, that's what I would assume.

I deleted my 2 month "old" version of manager, downloaded the newest. Everything in my Outlook in every view is working fine. In the meantime, all my settings were lost w/ the new version, so there is some link somewhere.
All I want to do is sync....the process transfers files, and right before it is done it gives me "Unknown error", and nothing transfers.

What is it you are having trouble with? Re-doing the settings in desktop manager?

me too
this worked for me:
(as directed before)
BB desktop manager
select backup and restore
Advanced
select and clear calendar items on Right column
(new)
close out of b&r
select synchronize
configuration
Advanced-reset config
(as directed before)
configure sync tab
outlook to device only for calendar
select future events only
go back and try to sync now
if this finally works (and it did for me) don't forget to reset your sync to back-and -forth from device calendar to microsoft outlook as before
I hope it works for you too and I didn't forget something important

Ok....will try at home tomorrow morning. I did do that sequence w/ the original version of DM, but not since downloading the newer version.
It starts the transfer of data and files but stops w/ the error message.
Thanks in advance....will let you know.

Shot in the dark, here: How big is your pst file?
How about cleaning it up and making it signicantly smaller. Maybe make sure Outlook has compressed it. Or, possibly, rename your pst, create a new one, selectively copy some entries from the original to the new pst, and then try a sync to the new pst.

The Outlook database is in a *.pst file. You probably have two, one is the active and the other is the archive.
Search for them and take a look at their size. I don't know if there is still an issue with the newest versions, but there at least used to be issues with the files getting corrupted when they got up to a certain range in size. (2GB? I don't recall exactly.)
You can go into Oulook options (tools > options) and select the mail setup tab, then data files, and there you will see the files. Highlight one, select settings, and then compact. Do same for any others. Does that reduce the file size significantly?
My other suggestion is to try creating a new pst file, and see if there's any trouble sync'ing to the new file. If all is well, try copying some data from the old file and see if it makes any diference.
You may want to keep the old pst in Outlook so you can have it available. It won't sync with the blackberry, but it will be there as a reference when you are working with Outlook.

Search your computer for a file called "ScanPST.exe" open it.
You can scan your PST files and fix them with this utility.
Search your computer for "*.pst" and scan the results using Scan.PST.exe.
Outlook 2003 PST files use to corrupt after 1.4 GB - 2 GB and up.
Outlook 2007 I believe has a larger limit but I can't confirm that.
Try scanning the PST as mentioned above.

Didn't know about that utility. I like that idea better than what I suggested.

Yea it's a just a pain to find/use if you've never used it before.
I really wish MS would make the repair feature easier with a built in feature..
