I am still confused...but I do appreciate everyone's help. Do I need to have the pearl OS on my PC, an OS on the desktop manager, and the OS on the pearl, itself?

I figured it out

navigate to c:\program files\common files\Research in motion

somewhere is those files is a file called "vendor.xml" (i would search for it to make it easier)

you need to delete this file for the DM to find your software

I finally have opera successfully working. However, I am now trying to get the gmail application downloaded on to my PC to transfer to BB via DM, but can't find a download application anywhere? I tried to use Opera to download the gmail application, but it did not work. Any ideas?

Try using the BB browser to download the OTA version of the Gmail application.

Opera Mini will pass the download to the BB browser as well--can't tell what you mean by "did not work."
