Default 1xRTT in tethered mode?

Please Login to Remove!

I am about to purchase the 7130e on a Verizon account, and one of my primary applications will be to use the BB as a tethered modem for my Windows PC notebook. Seems like I read somewhere that the tethered modem functions only on EVDO and will not work on the 1xRTT network.

Can someone substantiate this?

Thanks!

According to Verizon, tethered modem works on the 7130e in 1XRTT service areas at 1XRTT speeds. From experience, my business partner was in an area with only 1XRTT two days ago and was able to use his 7130e tethered, albeit at the slower rate.

-- edited to fix 1x to 1X.

it works in 1X but don't think it would work in 1x.

Uh Oh... Now I need to ask what the difference is between 1X and 1x. I haven't heard this terminology before.

Thanks...

These are the display symbols at the top of a CDMA based BlackBerry (7750, 7250, 7130).

1x = voice only
1X = Data and voice

Emergency Calls EV - 1X - 1x - D
Text (SMS) Messages EV - 1X - 1x - D
Phone EV - 1X - 1x - D
Email and PIN Messages EV - 1X
MMS Messages EV - 1X
Browser EV - 1X
High-Speed Data EV

1X is usually aroung 75kbs - Just a little faster than a dial-up modem.

Sorry for the 1x vs 1X confusion.

Remember that Verizon has a 15 day return policy. The only way to really know if you have the service you want in the area where you work is to try it there.

Hi folks... just wanted to let you know that I got an email reply from Verizon customer support indicating that the 7130e will work fine as a modem in both EVDO and 1xRTT signal areas.

Thanks for your help...

Default Modem

Tethering will work in both 1X and EVDO like said before EVDO is like DSL vs Dial-up!!
