Opera Mini on Verizon 8830
Please Login to Remove!
Guys, is anyone else having issues getting Opera Mini to work on the 8830 as of a few days ago? I had Opera Mini both 3.0 and 4.x Beta working just fine a while back and then decided to use them again a couple of days ago and couldn't get it to work. Opera just would not find network access out. Now, here's the kicker, I can't remember if I tried to use Open Mini after I upgraded to the Sprint OS a while back and it's just related to that, but I honestly don't feel like downgrading just to find out. So, if you have it loaded, can you give it a wirl and see if it still works for you? Also, let me know if you're running on .66 or .123 for the OS. Thanks.

No one has an 8830 on VZW who uses Opera Mini? I somehow find that hard to believe.

I cannot get opera mini 3.1 or even the beta 4 to work on my 8800. I am running 4.2.1.90. I looked on the opera site and apparently the latest revisions of the BB OS cause problems on many, but not all, installations of opera mini.
Apparently, the opera test machine works ok so they can't seem to reproduce the fault. If opera cant duplicate the fault, they cant fix it. And, as opera seems to be free, there is no financial incentive for them to jump on it. I think one of the newer releases of BB OS may fix it but maybe not. I think there is a newer release out now.
You could check out their forums at Opera Web Browser. You will probably get better help there.

I've been running 4.2.2.123 almost since the day it was posted and Opera Mini 3.1 maybe a day after that. There were a couple of days it inexplicably stopped working (BB browser still worked fine), but that was well over a week ago. Last time I used it (maybe 2 days ago) it was working fine.
If I remember (BIG "if") I'll try it again today and post the results.

I had the same problem as lawdogg where both opera mini beta 4 and opera mini 3.1 stopped working for a day or two last week....the blackberry browser worked fine.
I haven't had any issues since then. All three browsers are working fine. I'm on the Verizon OS.

I was under the impression that Opera Mini does not work with the Verizon 8830. In fact, when I go to the download link on Opera's website there is a footnote that states the browser is not available for Verizon Blackberry users. Is this a mistake? Thanks.

Opera mini works on the VZW 8830. So, yes, you are under the wrong impression.

Yeah, mine used to work as well, but all of a sudden one day it stopped. Reinstalling, resetting, nothing works, the "network setup test" after install also fails for both 3.x and 4.x Beta. This is really weird. I really hope VZW's not starting to block server access to the Opera proxy servers because "They don't support 3rd party apps". I wouldn't put it past them to start doing this, but it's interesting that some people's is still working.

Verizon hasnt blocked access to Opera. Many many users currently are using opera without any issues. Why would they block just you.
i suggest battery pull, if that doesnt work, uninstall/reinstall with battery pull.
Good luck

Well, I might have bit your head off too quickly, but I'm a bit more advanced in my knowledge of the BB devices rather then the average user on here, so hence I've already tried everything locally, including doing an OS wipe and reload to .66 and still nothing, must definatly be network related.

T-Mobile's been doing some network software updates for the past 1.5 weeks. It was supposed to be done 2 weekends ago, but it ran late into last week and as of today RIM is still working with them to stabalize some things on their end. The BIS interface on My-Tmobile site is up and down because of this as well. (Heh, can you tell I've been on the phone with them a few times this week already?) Hopefully they will finish before the end of the week. This may or may not be the cause of the Opera issues for tmo.

Upon further investigation it apears that final IP assignment to the BB's browsing ability is definatly an IP in the range ARIN assigned to RIM. However, this result is only because the last IP shown in the whole "BB Browsing process" is the RIM Proxy server one. There is still a local IP assigned to the phone that it uses to connect to the carrier's local network before the browser requests traffic from the RIM Proxy servers. I never ran through this check with Opera running, but I'd wager that the IP assignment showing would be one from Opera's proxy servers. So really the issue could be a block from the local carriers before it reaches RIM or one from RIM's proxy servers. It's hard to say without being able to run advanced IP diags from the device, but there's no easy way to do this.
