Default more problems with the pearl!

Please Login to Remove!

ok so ive had my pearl now for about 2 months. i had some issues and was helped out by the people on the forums. (thank you) well ive followed the guide on how to optimize the BB which worked great. i also installed jivetalk as instructed and found its a good program. the problem is now that for the passed few days the phone decides that it wont place or receive calls, no incoming messages or anything. the power stays on but will not allow any function. so in order for me to do anything i have to do a hard reset and it doesnt last long. is anyone else having this problem? or does anyone know why this is occuring? the help would be appreciated and thank you in advance

Hey Vinnie - how much free space do you have? Click on the Options icon, then status and report back the File Free.

Also, what other apps do you have installed besided JiveTalk?

That's 7.7M, and is quite low. I find I need at _least_ 15M for mine to be stable. I have BBWeather, Windows Live Search, TeleNav, and FindIt! installed.

If you do a hard reboot, what does the File Free go up to?

Yes, a reboot by removing the battery while device is on (for about 30 seconds).

Doing so does not 'erase everything', but rather it reclaims any unused memory.

So you have done that and you have the same file free???

Just pop the battery out and in - then immediately check the free space.

Juwaack68 is right - 7.7mb is REALLY low memory for a Pearl.

Was the BlackBerry plugged in to the PC (or the wall) when you removed the battery.

You are going to have to remove applications and themes you don't need.

Check the data usage on the device. Click on Options icon, then Status. Then click the Menu key (left of the trackball - the button with all the dots on it) and click Database Sizes.

What are the different database sizes there? Any that look very large compared to others?

Wait...have you been taking a lot of pictures with your device? If so, do you have a microSD card to store them on - or are they getting stored on the device?

That will definately eat up memory very quickly. Try using the Media Manager under Desktop Manager to move the over to the card.

If you don't have Desktop Manager installed, you can download it here:
Where can I download Desktop Manager and / or the Handheld OS? - BlackBerryFAQ.com

I recommend version 4.2.2, not 4.3

4.3 has been reported as very buggy by many users. Most people downgrade to 4.2.2 and have no problems.

juwaak68: hey i'm having sort of the same problem i've followed JC's guide to optimize but I can't get my free memory to go about 5mb? Even under my application database there aren't any alarming huge files. I only have one 3rd party software and I store all my pics on my sd card??

Any ideas? I would really appreciate it. thank you

How about themes and ringtones? Have you downloaded any of these to your device? Themes can only be stored on the device, so you don't want too many. Ringtones should be stored on the memory card.

Have you emptied your Browser cache/cookies, too?
