It is a slick little device, not my cup of tea to be honest but I think it will make a bigger splash in the consumer market. It comes down to needs, wants, requirements etc. Myself I'm not a fan of the new keypad or display but my dislikes could easily be someone elses needs and wants. I will say its a nice change of form factor for RIM and forward thinking outside the business market.

The 7100t is awesome, it will only get better with firmware/software updates.

4.0 being released won't change things much for the 7100 since the more important changes relate to making it more phone-like, if you want a more phone-like blackberry then its great and if you don't then there are plenty of other options to choose from.

I just bought one. I'm totally new to Blackberry. But I travel 3-4 weeks out of the month with my job. I was always looking for a starbucks Hot Spot to jack my laptop into. While the eye candy at Starbucks is usually spectacular, I found it difficult to make phone calls and such. Waiting until I get to the hotel at night is often leaving me way behind.

So far so good. THe biggest reason I went with the 7100T is the form factor. Felt more like a real phone than a frozen waffle. I love the speakerphone option and I'm a big bluetooth fan.

I have big fat fingers and the new keyboard is easier for me to use than the tiny little buttons on the 72XX model I played with at the store. Image is sharp and clean. I have over-40 eyes and I can read this phone with ease without my reading glasses! Great phone/PDA/email device I don't do the IM thing so I can't comment on that. I also don't think much of the webbrowser speed, but if I want to surf, I'll go find the Hot Spot and pull out the laptop.

Here's something cool.... TMobile sold me a car charger that also has prongs for plugging into a 110v home outlet. How smart is that? Someone that understands what it's like to carry a bag full of cables and adapters!

I'm a pretty happy camper with the 7100T.

Like you, I am relatively new to this forum, travel quite a bit, and don't IM. I went with the 7230 because of the full QWERTY keyboard for sending e-mails while on the road. My concern with the 7100t was the keyboard--I haven't tried but have seen it and it appears a bit awkard for typing relatively quickly? How has your experience been with sending e-mails and difficulty in using the compact keyboard?

I think it's more a matter of who prefers which form factor better. Operational-wise, I think the 7100 will probably be about equal to the 7290. Bluetooth, 32mb RAM, 3.8 software, etc...

There is a reason that Tmo was the first carrier to get that device. They are probably one of the most consumer oriented carriers out there and this device matched their business plan pretty well. IMO, its not a device i would expect to see deployed to a great number of businesses as a productivity tool.

Default Blackberry 7110 Hype?

I am a previous user of the BB 957 with Cingular coverage. I love my new 7100T. You get used to the keyboard really quick if you just watch the keyboard as you enter data and not the screen, it picks the right word 98% of the time. I traveled with my boss this week and I had coverage everywhere we went, his Cingular was useless in quite a few places.
