Default 7290 Backlight Question

Please Login to Remove!

The two step backlight is great on the 7290.

Does anybody know if there is a way to have it auto-activate when you scroll the wheel or press a button? I hate having to hit the button twice.

It seems so lazy now that I think of it . . .

the 7100's backlight comes on when you scroll the trackwheel or push a button. since its the same OS, albeit not the same hardware, i would assume these would be similar in function.

with that said, i don't see an option for this aside from timeout period, etc (under Screen/Keyboard).

Beyond receiving a phonecall the only way to activate the backlight on a 7290 is via the button.

As far as the 7100, the backlight is always on when the screen is visible so they obviously had to make it work differently to conserve battery life.

Thanks.

Any chance the next software version will have an automatic backlighting option?

Its unlikely, they haven't bothered adding it before now, presumably they think having an actual backlight button is sufficient.

It's funny, I still use my 6710 despite having a 6280 and 7290.

Nothing beats that big easy-to-read screen of the 6710.

I would use the 7290 in a heartbeat if the darn backlight was automatic. With the light off, the screen is horrible.

The screen is big, but the res is so much lower than on the colour devices that i'd never go back to a 6700 and thats even without the lack of usb support.

What lighting conditions are you using it in, I find it marginally worse than a 7230, but still really good and the vastly superior resolution over a mono device is so useful to me.

For me, the BlackBerry is all about text and the 6700 series fits more "readable" text on the screen than the 62XX/72XX series. The low res of the 6710 doesn't bother me when all I do is go through 100s of emails a day. I also like the fact that my 6710 came with a cradle vs. the USB cable for the 62XX/72XX series.

The 7290 screen is just plain dark with the light off. I generally use it in normal office lighting. It looks awesome all lit up.

My perfect device would be a 7790 with auto-backlight.
