Default handsfree through car audio

Please Login to Remove!

Hi,

I've been using cassette tape jack to listen to the music or handsfree in the car (for my old phone, Treo). After I change it to Curve, I expect the same function. Its sound is great as mp3 player. Now, if someone calls me when I listen to the music, I expect it stops playing the music and turn to handsfree mode (which Treo did before). It, actually, stopped the music and connects the call. But I could not hear the voice over the car audio. Even though it is connected through 3.5mm audio jack, I had to hold it to my ear to talk/hear the voice.

I think it is something about setting (such as audio out through speaker or jack.... for handsfree) , but I couldn't find the right one. Can someone please educate me?
Thanks,

in theory, you should be able to hear the call through your car speakers, but they wouldn't be able to hear you, because the casette tape/wire doesnt have an input mic...not really sure why it worked with the treo (maybe the device microphone didnt turn off, but im almost positive blackberry mic's turn off when there's a 'hands free' plugged into the 3.5mm)

There was no problem to use it as handsfree with my old Treo before. I could hear them through car speaker and they could hear me through mic in the phone. Now, I had to put this to my ear even with cassette plugged in 3.5mm jack. (I can hear them through my phone speaker). I wonder why Curve blocked transferring voice through 3.5mm jack although it worked as for mp3 player.

I have no problem with ear-phone handsfree device which was in the box with the phone. One minor difference is this jack has 3 contacts while the cassette device plug has two contacts. Does this cause this difference? (I thought the missing contact is for microphone, so only other's voice (incoming voice throught the air to the phone) can go out by 3.5mm jack, but mic of the phone should still work)

Yes, that's the difference.

I don't think the BB's mic works with something plugged into the jack (regardless of the number of conductors). Don't know anything about how the Treo works but it's not really germane anyway.

Angry It worked fine with my 8330 until I loaded 4.5

Like the previous poster, I patched my Blackberry into my car stereo using the audio input jack like the previous poster. The receive audio from my Blackberry sounded beautiful through my car stereo. The microphone on the bottom of my Blackberry worked just fine from it's location on my center console.

Then I installed 4.5 the other day, and now when placing or receiving a call on the Blackberry, audio will not pass to the car stereo. If, during the call, I unplug and replug the cable into the Blackberry, the audio connects to the car stereo just fine. But this is a pain in the butt and not an ideal solution.

Anybody else experience this? Any solutions?
