No one knows until probably later this afternoon....Current dimensions:

Blackberry 7250 4.90 oz 4.50" x 2.90" x 0.90"
Treo 650 6.30 oz 4.40" x 2.30" x 0.90"

It is has been noted that it will be thinner and more narrow than the 7200 series.

It's that middle dimension that's important to me...

Thanks,

Its width is pretty close to that of a 7200 series handheld, only slightly narrower.

Hmm. I guess I'll have to wait to see what slightly means. For me personally, the difference b/t the 650's 2.3" and the 7250's 2.9" is enormous. I don't expect for a second that the 8700 will be 2.3" wide - it certainly doesn't look it! But if they can get it to 2.5, 2.6 I may switch back to BB (I had a 7100 for a while).

Its within a few mm of being the same width as a 7290 was what i meant.

As far as the difference being enormous, thats due to one having a useable qwerty keyboard and the other not.

Skive,
With respect I heartily disagree. The treo 650's keyboard is entirely usable. I make very few mistakes when typing, whether with 1 thumb or 2. I might consider a 2.9" wide device if they actually made good use of the size for screen real estate - iow, more pixels. But the 8700 is supposed to be 320 across right? Same as the 650 despite the screen being a good deal larger on the 8700. Now if they got it to 480 wide *then* they'd have something

I'm sure the 8700 will be great. I think BB's work well for the most part. I got rid of my 7100 b/c:
- it hung a bit (with the latest firmware)
- it was sluggish
- b/c there are a surprisingly large number of 2 and 3 letter words which share the same key combination - like 'get' and 'hey' so I was constantly having to go back in and correct stuff like that. It got frustrating.

Sounds like the 8700 will be much snappier given the internals, which is great. And the full keyboard will eliminate the auto type problems I experienced.

I looked at the full sized BBs but couldn't hack the width. The 650 was the best choice for me. I'll still try to seek out the 8700 to hold it. Who knows, maybe those few mms will feel just different enough in the hand that i'll give it a go?
