Default 8320 Dropped handoff UMA > EDGE

Please Login to Remove!

This problem occurred before upgrading to .180.

If I initiate a phone call on my home network via UMA (Linksys router, not H@H), it works great...right up to the point I drive away from home....then the call gets dropped.

If I am on the phone when I get home, it hands off to UMA just fine and no dropped calls.

Ideas?

Are you on UMA when you are still leaving in the car? If so I bet the WiFi signal drops before a hand off can be negotiated.

This happens to me too. At my house (where it occurs) I have a very weak T-Mobile signal, which led me to think that it must have been related to the BB not finding the GSM signal in time to hand off.

It seems to me that the GSM signal would have to be up and running just as thought it was doing the call for it to "instantly" replace the WiFi single loss.

Good luck on this working early on.

This happens all the time to me. I even live in a strong T-Mobile signal area. I get on a call at home, jump in my car, and while driving off I drop the call (every time). With my job I often have conference calls that can last over an hour and I hate dropping calls because I have to go somewhere. Lately I have even turned off my WIFI radio before a call that I know I will have to leave the house during the call. I can't wait for these wrinkles to get ironed out.

I have the same issues but they seem to limited to when I'm using my bluetooth headset. Are your handoff problems occurring while not using a bluetooth?

Yes, I am on UMA when I am still in the car. My WiFi AP is near the front of the house, so it can easily extend into the cul-de-sac where I live. I've basically learned not to make outgoing calls if I am leaving, or switch off WiFi, which realistically I can't understand the use for in my current situation, since I still use minutes and have a strong EDGE signal. So, for the most part, I leave WiFi off.

Bluetooth headsets are a whole other subject. I was talking about using just the cellphone. If I use a bluetooth headset I drop calls on UMA all the time. I can have full UMA signal and I still drop calls left and right.

I have a dir 655 router and I just ordered the special antennae adapter that is supposed to boost my range. We will see what happens.
