Default BESX no wireless activation?

Please Login to Remove!

Can some one tell me why it's not possible to make a wireless activation when you want to add a BB to a BESX server?

Am waiting on clarification on this too - it seems to depend on which Data plan you are on I think. If you are on an Enterprise (BES) plan it should work. Seemingly not if you are on a BIS one.

So! BES should work but BIS not.

Strange indeed

Well, given that BES costs more, the cynical side of me (is there any other side? lol) says not so strange

Your BlackBerry needs to have the BlackBerry Enterprise data plan to wirelessly activate it, the regular BlackBerry data plan will not work. BIS will work with the regular data plan for wired activation.

contrary to what people have reported here. I have been able to successfully activate besx on 2 blackberry's with BIS plans -wirelessly via Rogers network. Both phones (9700 & 8900) have 5.0.0.xx o/s on them. I noticed that you have to reboot your phone, once loaded, wait about 3-5 mins, and the "enterprise activation" appears in advanced options menu. Note, EA goes away after a while, but besx connection remains in tact. One you reboot bb, wait a few mins, then the EA option shows up and states it activated...
both phones are on Rogers, and guaranteed on BIS 500mb plan.

I'm trying to do the same...on Rogers with BIS and installed BESX. What are the exact steps to activate wirelessly?
- Set up user in BESX with activation password
- Reboot my BB and I should see Enterprise Activation? Then activate...

Wirelessly posted (Bold)

Yes, once you have created activation password, find EA on your phone. It'll be in advanced options. If the EA is not on your phone, then reboot, wait until the data is finished send/receive (the arrows top right stop), then look in advanced options. I had a frined check if EA existed on his new 9700 on Bell, it did not

Must be just a rogers thing. -9700 is Rogers branded and 8900 is unlocked TMo on Rogers network. Good luck.
PS, I only needed to enter in my email address and password. Did not have to put in the activation server address.

I recently had a BlackBerry that was on the BIS plan that had the EA option to activate wirelessly but every time I tried to activate it it would just hang. When we finally uped the plan to the BES data plan, it came up first try. So sometimes it is there but whether you can activate it is the problem.

Default Just to clarify?

Let me get this right? If you have a BES data plan, you are all good. Understood. But if you have BIS data plan, you have to activate using the USB cable, but once the activation is complete, everything will sync wirelessly just like on BES?????

That's correct.

From the BES Express Admin Guide:

To activate a BlackBerry® device over the wireless network, you assign an activation password to a user account. The user receives
the activation password in an email message and associates the BlackBerry device with the email account by typing the password
on the BlackBerry device. You cannot activate a BlackBerry device that is associated with the BlackBerry Internet Service over
the wireless network or over your organization's Wi-Fi® network.

In other words, you need an enterprise data plan. I'm still going to confirm with some RIM contacts.

Some carriers remove the Enterprise Activation option from the handheld on BIS only plans. If the option is there, you can likely use it. If it's not there then you're out of luck to start EA wirelessly. It's as simple as that.

That's the way it's supposed to be. Only wired activations will work with BIS data plans, not wireless activations.

You need a data plan either BIS (for connected activations) or BES (for Over The Air activations). No data plan = no activation.

BIS Service plans do work, however they use the Slow Activation Process.

To do a BIS activation on BESX you must go to options > advanced options > Enterprise activation. Enter your info.

If not's not there... this worked for me... go to your HRT, press Blackberry Key. Go to main menu, then go back to options > advanced options, Enterprise Activation should now be there.

If not well i do not know of any other work-arounds.
