Thanks in advance!
It is still in Beta, therefore there are more risks involved then you would have from a carrier released version.

As for where to get it...

Has anyone else on v4.5.0.51 noticed that ringtones/sounds have a different sound to them? It almost sounds distorted.

Wirelessly posted (8830)

Acoustix, I'm not sure if I'd call them "distorted" but they *definitely* sound different.

Ya they have no bass or treble to them at all. Very empty sounding.

This likely only pertains to calls and not to ringtones or media (see below for that), but... I see that there is a new Phone Option (go into Phone app and then pick Options) under "General Options" (not "Enhanced Audio") called Enhance Call Audio. It can be set to "Normal," "Boost Bass," "Boost Tremble," or "Previous." I wonder if people that have had problems with sound quality of voice calls have tried this.

For media, there's an option called "Audio Boost." Have you tried that to see if it's any better?

I made the changes and it still sounds empty/distorted. I've done side-by-side comparisons with other 8830 devices on v4.2. I guess we'll have to see if the next update of v4.5 fixes this issue.

Wirelessly posted (Sex Machine)

I don't think it's the OS, rather the included tones. I'm pretty certain they're of a lower quality in order to save room. My loaded tones (home made sound effects and whatnot for distinct ringtones) sound the same.
I use the Bach tune for my default unknown ring and it's definitely of a lower quality.

Cheers!

4.5.051 -

1. YouTube works fine.
2. I still have "wireless upgrades" available in the Options-Advanced page.
3. No Java errors (yet) even though I didn't install Docs 2 Go.
4. The ringers don't sound any better or any worse; no distortion though.

Hope that helped.

Is Documents To Go an option when you upgrade the OS? Or do you have to download and install it seperately?

A version of it comes with 4.5, but then you have to register it with Dataviz (the developer) and they throw you an updated file which has more functionality. Keep in mind that this is NOT the full version of Docs to Go. Pretty much only allows you to read files and not modify them.

Its an option only becuase it is not selected to install by default. When installing OS and it "recognizes" the new OS and offers to install it, you go into advanced options and select add addtional programs, select browse, and go back to the folder where the new OS is and select documents to go .alx file and it will install it with the OS.

I got a question. I installed .51 on my BB 8830 and forgot to delete the vendor.xml file. The install went fine and my BB is working. I have the HTML option in the Email settings. However, I installed the same OS on another BB 8830 from the same carrier, Sprint, this time I deleted the vendor.xml file. But, this BB doesn't have the HTML option on the Email settings. Any thoughts?

Strictly speaking, for the setup you're described, there is no need to delete the vendor.xml file. Might as well, but it's no trajedy if not.

As for the HTML, there's a sticky around here that explains what you need to do to get it working. In short, you need to resend your service books and set a few options. I've got a Sprint 8830, followed these directions, and get HTML mail with no major issues. (Some graphics may not load, but it's relatively rare).
