My media card door broke on the device. Is it fixable?

oh not easily, of course.

Let me tell you what I would do... Put the media card in as should be, close the door best you can, and lay a thin business card (or tear one in half) over the media card area, replace the battery and and the rear cover.

I have read on here of a user doing that for just your problem.

Or contact your provider for a replacement phone if its still under warranty. Unfortuneatly, no one sells that replacement part.

So include the door piece even if its not attached?

Did not work for me. Thank you. I am debating whether to use the insurance or wait for the next device.

Update:
My wife clipped the door back on. Its working now. I didn't know the door was detachable.
To get her to do it, I have to be denied a certain service.

She is the handy one in the family. Owns a BB but barely knows how to e-mail.

Glad to read that it went well. I almost broke it by using it wrong way... ouch!

RIM really needs to show how it works. :P

I think they need to have less fragile setups. I think the pearl has a better setup if I am not mistaken.

The fragile doors discourage me and I am sure others from switching cards as you would flash drives on a PC.

I have worried about that myself. I transfer files all the time by pulling the micro sd card out, putting it in a card reader and moving files around. But every time I do, the thought occurs to me that the little door is cheap and that I hope I don't break it.

But very cool that your wife fixed it. I'd say you owe her!

I'm more of a "stick it in, leave it in" kind of guy. Of course I have a big one (media card, that is)! When I think of my wife fixing something for me I laugh, then I shudder. She's definitely NOT the handy one in the family. Her fix would involve scissors, glue, and copious amounts of scotch tape.

Too funny. Good post of the month candidate. You're just giddy because you're getting a new bold!

On mine, I've used the door so much that it doesn't always recognize that the door is closed...I can't think of a good way to fix a worn contact.
Is it a standard part across the 8100, 83x0, and the 88x0? Maybe it's time for a PCB level repair...lol

The apparently very fragile media door with the exceptionally small size of the SD card convinced me to get the 8gig and not think about changing cards. The door seems flimsy and the card would be easy to misplace it is so tiny. Now add in that my BB is encased in an Otterbox making it even more inaccessible. If it ain't broke, it will be if you use it too much!
