P.S. - There's absolutely NO advantage to installing this version over the latest version from Telstra. Simply put - it was not made for the GSM/EDGE devices. I understand the whole fiasco about installing Windows on a Mac and OSX on a PC these days, but this OS installation for the BlackBerry is nothing more than semi-geek 'fun' that is not really worth if for 'average Joe', as its just a novelty, at best.

I took the plunge and downloaded this OS for my 8700r. I followed the directions & so far so good. I'll admit I was worried and was expecting the worse but I've had no issues. It's too soon to tell but after I play around with the BlackBerry some more I'll be able to see if there are any differences between this OS and the Telstra OS.

Re
I have considered doing this upgrade, however, I am concerned by a previous post that was made stating that particular applications were not functioning properly due to the lack of a TCP stack.
Because the post was EXTREMELY confusing. The 8707 - which is not available in the US, does not have the TCP stack. Feel free to upgrade the 8700 to any version you'd like to
Well it's been just under 12hrs since the upgrade and so far all is stable. No issues and everything works. One major issue I had w/ Telstra was that if BlackBerry service was down be it a problem on RIM's end or my carriers end my BlackBerry wouldn't even allow me to make a voice call. I would get a sim barred message where with previous OS versions I never had that issue. I am hoping that with this new OS I won't have that issue but for now I like it. One thing I noticed was the BlackBerry seems faster, there is no minor lags like I had with the Telstra OS. Other than that I haven't noticed many significant differences.
Here's one thing I just noticed with the new OS since I finally decided to check my voicemail. When I called in to my message centre I was prompted to enter my password. I thought that was odd since in the voicemail options in the additional numbers field I hald always had the letter p followed by my password. Anyways so I enter my password check my vmail return my calls then go into the voicemail options to see what happened. In the additional numbers field there was nothing so I went to enter p + my password but it only took the numbers I entered. With this OS I can't enter the letter P for a pause before it dials my password.
