Well to aspiring BB BES Admins/users maybe. But solely to providers the importance of 3G is wider bandwidth to offer more data consumptive features, more opportunities for contracts (ie Contracting out data services to local Police cruisers connecting via VPN to police central HQ database like Rogers Wireless does with the Toronto Police ). More options for data connectivity & economies of scale over the long term & support for newer devices.
I agree with tethering but I also see small stationary nodes that have an AC adapter and SIM card within providing home users with Internet Light service where Cable/DSL companies cannot provide service - also where only satellite is offered at exorbitant prices! ;) Also an alternative to Satellite DVD based auto navigation?? (nah).
Unless Cingular, Rogers, TMobile, West provides Glenayre based Video Mail Boxes along with Video calling; then Video Conferencing/Calling is useless in this part of the world.
