In BB messenger you can send a voice note. just be in a chat window hit your pearl and select send voicenote. It will auto start recording and you can send a crystal clear voice not to a buddy. Pretty cool!!!

I like being able to attach a file from the device memory to my emails. I don't know what the file size limits are (or if you're only able to attach certain types of file extensions) but it's a neat little feature I wish the 8700c had.

Anyone have more input on this?

Then you've NEVER used an SE phone or the old Ericsson T39m. I'd have continous NON-STOP 9hrs talk time or 5days standby even with over 50MB of data surfing (WAP btw, so its slower but uses less per page = LOTS of sites).

Great to see the 8800 has incredible life. now if only the ability to save SMS/MMS to the micoSD card.

On my Pearl it seems by 1 entry at a time I can save a contact # to the SIM card. Did RIM expand on this?

Here's a beware - if you are on the home screen and hit the menu button to see the list of apps, then you can't use speed dials. What you get are the home screen shortcuts.

Post your own.
Well, not exactly. If you press and HOLD the Call button (green handset), you can type a name to retrieve an Address Book entry, but that's available on 4.1 firmware on devices with a Call button (like the 8700) too.

If you just quickly tap the Call button and type letters, you'll get the corresponding number as found on a standard telephone keypad.

Also, the response may differ depending on your Dial From Home Screen setting (Phone --> Options --> General Options), but I'm not sure. I have it turned off (No).

Do you mean you can email MP3 file to your 8800 and it will be played from the attachment? I thought MP3 files cannot be sent via email to BB.

I just tried this and it does not work. Sent myself an mp3 file and it arrived on the 8800, but no option to download, save to play.

Remember , there was a bracket note and that says is works on BES and it was not meant for BIS. also if yours was on BES it might have been restricted by the policy of you company.

Why is this not possible / not allowed via BIS but OK through BES?

It IS possible, but at this time Cingular does not allow it. Why they don't allow it is for them to answer.

I realy think it is more of an issue between RIM and Cingualr and there negotiations have taken too long since the release of the 8700. It could very well be a money issue.

Apologies if this has already been addressed and I haven't found it....

Anyone know if there's a way to get the Profiles menu to go straight to the old menu (now called advanced) when you open it? This new menu is SLOW and annoying!

Not sure if I understand your question. But, if you have the call from home disabled, you can push the "f" key to pull up the profiles. Scroll all the way down to get the full options.

I'm sorry if I wasn't clear. I know how to pull up the Profiles menu. My question relates to if there's a way to make the profiles menu automatically pull up the Advanced menu without having to scroll down to the bottom and click on it. The old OS didn't have this new "in between" menu.

Just curious...

Is there still a Ringtone Lighting option like on the pearl?
and I'm pretty sure I know the answer to this, but does the 8800 support flash?
