I've had no problems tethering to my laptop, but I've always used the VZAccess program mentioned in Mark's FAQ.

i believe this was a VZW release only.. so no guarantees that it would work on any other carrier..

Well, I hope that some one can shed some light on the whole Bell mobility thing. I baught this blackberry because of the highspeed and teathering ability. I have about a week left that I can return it, and If I dont come up with some kind of result, Ill be going to an air card instead.

All the 3rd party web applications require access to tcp/ip stack or an apn. Bell doesn't allow any of this. The only solution is to go with a hosted bes, then you'll be able to use the chat clients/ssh/rss readers, etc.

The 7250 isn't marketed as a high speed internet device or a "tetherable" device.
Perhaps with the release of 4.1 handheld software, it will be with 1XEV-Do.

Now that I have had EVDO on my 7250 for a few days I can say this...performance is a bit faster when in 1X mode in a non-EVDO area than previously with the 1x mode. I was in Philly for a few days and boy let me tell you what a night and day difference there was between 1X and 1XEV. I almost didn't want to leave. Another indicator I saw while in Philly was a 1XEVD, I am not sure what that signifys but I had no problems getting around and using my BB.

Tethering with my BB to my laptop was nice too. I used VZAccess and had better speeds with my laptop on 1X than with a 56K modem. When in the EVDO area in Philly, speeds were almost on par with initial roll outs of DSL in the 384KB range. It was a pleasant experience.

When I was in Philly I would bounce between different networks I am guessing. At some point my indicator had a little solid triange next to the left of the 1XEV. I was also getting a little solid triange next to the left of the 1EXV inidicator too. Anyone have any ideas as to the meaning of the triangles?? Maybe it means that I was roaming.

Default The pain continues with Sprint...

So far...

11/21 - Found extra stuff on my bill (SMS) and when I asked them to take it off they said they had to add EVDO
11/22 - Called and asked why I'm not getting EVDO when I'm paying for it, they said it's not compatible with my phone and took it off and credited me.
11/22 - They called me back and said it would be compatible in 30-60 days.
12/6 - Found that I'm being billed for individual internet access, they took off my unlimited internet! Had them put it back on and credit me. I asked about when EVDO would be available and they said it showed as being available and to call a store to get the software. So I called the stores and none of them had a clue.

Has anyone else had a battery charging problem since going to 4.0.2? It seems I cannot get the battery to charge above 3 bars (55% when I look at Options-Status). I am using the AC charger. This morning I left it plugged in for 1 hour and only went from 2 bars to 3. Usually I would get a full charge in about 15 minutes.

I've noticed that my battery takes much much longer to charge.. usually it charges in about an hour, but now its taking about 3 hours to fully charge

Our user here reports no issues thus far, but he usually has it plugged in at his desk via USB during the day, then nothing overnight, then back in the office. Also no reports of it losing power any faster than usual. Don't know if that helps or not, but thought I'd pass it on.

WHOOO-HOOO

I'm up and running with 1XEV on my 7250! I ended up stopping at a Verizion Wireless Company Store and they were more than happy to add the feature to my number. I did learn something about the confusion. It seems that they couldn't use their "standard" system to setup the code; they had to use a different system.

Anyway, followed Marks FAQ instructions and it worked perfectly. The second reboot was about 10 minutes.

I just ran a speed test using the CNET tool:

1 - Go to http://www.cnet.com on your Blackberry
2 - Scroll down to "CNET TOOLS" select Banwidth Meter
3 - Enter postal code & select wireless as your connection
4 - click "GO"

Got 702.6kbps

Is there even EVDO in Petewawa? I thought it was only rolled out in Toronto and Montreal.

After a couple of days my 7250 is still doing great with EVDO. I've used it all over Pittsburgh with good results. Speed tests have been averaging between 700-800kbps.

Its actually fun to use the browser now.

I was told there was EVDO available due to it being right on the trans canada highway. And any ways, 1x is available here, and I do alot of traveling in/through the GTA. SO I should be able to take advantage of the EVDO eventualy.

It looks like Verizon customer support is catching on. I called and the first rep said that he knew he could put it on but needed me to speak with a sales rep to handle the transaction. In the meanwhile, I was disconnected and never spoke to a sales rep. When I called back, a different rep looked up my account and said that EVDO had been activated already from the first call. He said to make sure I call the activation number. All has worked well so far throughout this weekend, at least.

I have EVDO running on my 7250 and love it, but about 1-3 times per day I get the "data connection refused". I called VZW tech support, and they told me that there are still some "bugs" in the EVDO roll-out for the 7250. I said thank you, and don't let it bother me, I LOVE the EVDO of the BB, and still ahve and use my PCMCIA EVDO card for my laptop.

So glad I made the switch from TMO to VZW!!! It was the right thing to do at the right time!!!
