Default UK for a week taking my BB - switched off...

Please Login to Remove!

Hi there,
I'm going to be going home (London) for a week, post Blackberry. I have a phone I use when I'm over there... on Vodaphone PAYG. I never roamed on my WM phone. I just purchase a SIM card.

I have an unlocked TMobile 8320 (and am on Rogers and BIS) which I'm taking with me but, given the data charges (I don't tend to get lots of calls) I think I will be switching off the network so it doesn't automatically roam when I arrive. data is .15c/kb which to me is very pricey to pay on top of my already expensive data plan. I've heard horror stories of $200-$500 charges after a trip abroad. I don't intend that to happen to me.

I'm curious to know if anyone on the Rogers data plan has travelled to the UK/Europe and used their Blackberry - how did you find the roaming charges? Any thoughts I should bear in mind?

And 2) If I switch the network access off on my blackberry can I still use the calendar and other tools. "In effect it will be like a PDA.

I am already getting withdrawal symptoms thinking of not using my BB for a whole week... but maybe a break from it will be good for me .

yes you can use the blackberry as a PDA. you can also just go into mobile network under your options and turn JUST the data off if you still want to be able to make/receive calls.

If you could hook up to WiFi, then you can enable your data services if you want to. Data over WiFi is free.

Thanks you both... yes I should be able to hook up with wi-fi at some point. Hadn't thought of that option.
