Default MDS Issue: BBUserAdminService

Please Login to Remove!

I am desperatly trying to get MDS functioning on my v4.0 BES Server. When I enable MDS, it starts for about seconds and then stops. I view the MGMT log and notice an error message stating that the BBUserAdminService does not exist shortly after the log entry stating MDS starts. I have thus far been unable to find any documentation on this. Anyone got some ideas?

BBUserAdminService is seperate from MDS. It is used to remotely manage your users. The BB Resource Kit will give you info on BBUSerAdminservice.

I had this problem with MDS as well. One reason may be multiple versions of Java 2 Runtime on your server. Go to add/remove programs and if ther are more than one version of it, delete the older version. That will cause your problem.

Another issue may be if you had installed the BES with one BES name then upgraded to another BES without removing the first version. I did this as well and it causes the behavior you are talking about. Apparently, if you change BES names, a simple reinstall and changing the info doesn't work. You have to totally remove the BES and install from scratch.

I spoke to TSupport about the error message you are seeing - they said don't worry about it unless you are actually having problems with the BBUserAdminService.

The log file for MDS is prefixed by MDAT. Take a look there for any error messages.

The issue was that it was preventing MDS from starting. I managed to resolve the issue by applying v4.0 SP1. Once it was installed, BES recognized the fact that BESUserAdmin was installed (previously it listed it as uninstalled on the console) now it shows installed and MDS starts and functions like a charm. Thanks for the troubleshooting tips guys
