I was wrong when I posted earlier about not being able to install with a Mac. . . PocketMac 4 has a feature that does install software to the blackberry. . It's under Utilities in the menu bar.

Does look nifty on my Pearl (especially the red pearl with a red ball). I didn't try it on my 8800...

That maybe is a function of the newer operating systems and losing the ability to turn auto-dim off?

I have the original .42 OS and auto-dim set to "off." My trackball stays 100% bright for however long I set the trackball to stay lit.

There's nothing wrong with this program.

That's like asking why there are so many tweaks for Microsoft XP and why didn't MS include them all with the OS, either the original disc or through patches.

Fact is, third parties come up with all kinds of ideas. They put in the time and effort to do the programming that MS did not.

Same here. As time goes on third parties will come up with tweaks, etc. For example, there is one BBF member that developed that little program that resets the Pearl which is 150% better than doing what RIM requires for a reset, pulling the battery. Why didn't RIM include a software reset button in the original or subsequent operating systems?

And what about Seidio's speaker mod, better fitting cover and extended batteries? Why didn't RIM "fix" those things?

Fact is, I am sure that while RIM knew it could make the trackball light up different colors, they either reserved the idea for release on future phones [as an incentive for us to upgrade]; they did not want to take the time to make the program; or they figured changing the trackball color was not that important a feature to consumers, so why include it.

As to how it works, seeing how this might make the developer $500k to $1 million in the next month or so, I doubt they will tell you how they did it.

$500K to $1M? Come on - they'd have to sell 100,000 copies to get to the lower number. People might make some vacation money off something like this, but nothing like the numbers you are stating...

Well, my numbers are very conservative and based on how many hits my trackball mod got on all the Forums and through links. Even if they made $100k, that's a damn nice vacation.

Whatever, there are skeptics for sure.

Matter of fact, when bottled water came out I thought no way people would pay for water. Aside from the success of that product, I find myself now paying $2.50 for water all the time, at the movies, while shopping, on the road.

Bottom line, who cares. I was just thinking out loud and supporting my response to that one query as to why the developers are not about to share their secret [which may not be a secret at all since maybe anyone can do this, to where being the first out is what counts].

Truth is, no one knows what will take off and sell like hotcakes. Duly note that those who put ideas into action are optimistic while there are others on the sidelines saying "no way." Only time will tell.

Nice find SF, I'll add it when I get home. Sure RIM could've done it. You can already get the tb to blink multiple colors when it rings, so they put the colored LEDs there for some reason. I do wonder if it'll affect battery life, but not much. The 1250 battery now goes a week for me.

Try it with autodim on and the color is superb, I'll wait at night and see how it behaves in a darker enviroment so far so good I already broke my ewalley lol

Waiting until night is for wimps.

Be brave, lock yourself in a closet. Do the test for at least 1/2 hour. Report back your findings.

Bonus Tip: Take some water and trail mix into the closet with you, if needed.

OK, while I was cleaning off my blue Sharpie on the LED I did some tests to see what all is happening with the LEDs when this program is operating. As suspected, the program alternates the LEDs to get the various colors.

In disabled mode the main white LED, or default if you will, is the one that lights up.

Pics self explanatory. I did not do all the colors since one gets the idea with the below pics.

By the way, I took some of those pics before I cleaned off the blue Sharpie, that is why the lower right LED still has a blue tint to it.

I got out of the closet a while now.... that didn't sound right

LOL.ran out of water and need it to get some, didn't pay $2.50 for it though, any who I did try it even after I read this, the blue color is very solid while in the dark, but if the back light comes up the blue color kinds of fade, the same with any color. turn off autodim and the colors are not as solid, but still a cool app. and the support is also great, I stupidly put my PIN wrong while buying, and of course got a wrong key, this guys gave me a new key within 3 hours and I was like great.

I don't get the fading at all. But when I turned auto-dim to "on" I did get the fading.

Guess that's another reason I am glad to still be on the .42 OS. When I turned the feature on and went into a dark room I could not believe how dark the screen was, bad, bad, bad.

I think some one mention the fact that when back lights comes up, the "pearl" does get a flood of white thus some kind of fade of color, still bright and all but just not as blue if I make any sense?I´m on 1.66 OS

Of the six colors, my blue is not that bright, kind of faded. All the others are super bright.

Maybe the blue LED is not all that bright to begin with? Look at my pics. Notice that in comparison to the others, the blue LED is not as bright.
