Default New 9300 battery problem / question

Please Login to Remove!

I have a new 9300 (June 2) and for the first week it seemed to work fine and battery life seemed fine.
Last Thursday I set the phone to auto shut off at 8 pm and back on at 5 am. This is a work phone so I don't use at night. The next morning it hadn't turned back on and I couldn't wake it - taking battery out and back in didn't help. This seemed to be as a dead battery and sure enough when I plugged it in after a few minutes it started up. Sure enough dead battery.
Next evening I kept it on charger until just about 8 so it was fully charged - then unplugged and let it do its thing. Again in the am dead battery.
Last night I fully charged it (turned off the auto off and on) and manually powered it off. This morning - dead again.
In about 3 hours today with no real usage (checked for messages) it was down about 30%.
So is this a bad battery or something running (even when "powered down") that is draining battery? What can I test? How do I check to see what if anything is running in the background and how do I stop applications?

Thanks for your help / advice.

There was no reason to post again. Same answers apply.

1 - Rule out damage (for example, water damage)

2 - Rule out applications and software.

3 - Rule out battery.

4 - All that will be left is hardware failure.

Please do not double post. if you think it is in the wrong section, ask a mod to move it, or many of us will go ahead and move if we see it.

Pardon me - I guess I just don't understand the forums. I tried to delete old post but I guess on this board you can't do that.

Pardon me pardon me pardon me.

OK - the reason I posted is I don't know how to check out applications and software. Or rule out the battery. I have installed no new apps and this is tightly controlled by my company so I don't think you can install any apps.
No water damage.

Live and learn. No harm done.

The problem with multiple posts on the same topic is it makes it hard for people who come later searching on the topic. Better when all the discussion is in one place.

So, company BlackBerry....Easiest thing to do would be to ask for another battery. Or, if you have an office mate with same BlackBerry, ask to swap batteries for 24 hours, just as a test. That would be a way to rule out the battery, or find out for sure if the problem is the battery.

Sounds like the problem isn't an app, depending on what your employer adds to to the stock BlackBerry.

But, another thought, if you've started a navigation app and left it running, that can run the battery down pretty quick under some circumstances.

Some FYI tips: There really is no reason to turn the BlackBerry off. Charge it when you are sleeping. Set the profile to phone only, or whatever (I created a custom profile for phone and Level I messages only), or set the BlackBerry to silent profile.

And as Dubdub says, don't let the battery run down flat when you can help it. It is actually better to top off the battery whenever you have the chance.

The only apps running are home, browser, phone and messages.

I have bluetooth off and Wi-Fi is off.

Since I last posted battery is down another 5%.

If I fully charged the battery and then took it out overnight - if still fully charged in the am that would indicate phone issue (what would still be a ?) but if battery dead it would mean bad battery correct?

Thanks again

Yes and no. If the battery charge dropped significantly while out of the device, then you would know the battery is shorting out. But I believe there is another failure mode possible in which the battery would not lose charge while out of the device, but then lose charge rapidly once in the device and under demand.

I think your surest test of the battery is to put your battery in another BlackBerry, or try a known to be good battery in your BlackBerry.

Been several weeks but here is what is up and what isn't.
AT&T replaced the phone (phone, battery, charger, SIM) - the works. My company "deleted" me and added me again as a new user. The problem seemed to go away. Phone worked fine and battery usage was normal. That lasted for 10 days and the problem re-appeared in the middle of the day. I've been in class and hadn't taken the phone out until noon. At that point the battery seemed fully charged. Five hours later the battery was at half charge and it has been running like that ever since. It uses 10% or more of the battery every hour. If you sit and watch the screen every few minutes the "clock" spins on the dial for 30 seconds or more and you can't do anything else.

I have been doing some checking on the phone and if you look at the application details for the phone app it shows it using 90% or more of the cpu for 30 seconds and then down to nothing and then back up. It shows, for instance that I used the phone for 17 hours yesterday, 2+days this week - last week 41 seconds.
I'm not making calls - I made 1 this week but the phone application is just burning up time. I assume this isn't normal.
Any ideas folks? Since this is the second phone and a completely new set up from a company that runs thousands of blackberry's I can't imagine what it could be. Could it be an AT&T issue?
Help?
