I have a 8703e setup on a corporate BlackBerry Enterprise Server. I'm using the Sprint network. I'm new to the BlackBerry after tossing out my Treo. Pain in the @$$.

I've been playing around with BlackBerry Messenger, Yahoo Messenger, and I've setup two email accounts through BlackBerry email.

Can someone help me understand the network flow for these applications?

First, does the BB Messenger, Yahoo Messenger and BB email (not the corporate email) route directly to the Internet or to my company through their proxy server?

Second, what about general web browsing?

On the Treo, we used the Good Mobile solution. So, everything that wasn't the Good label was direct to the Internet.

Yahoo Messenger->Sprint->RIM->Yahoo IM servers

BIS Email (not corporate)->Sprint->RIM->Internet

Two types of browsing awailable from RIM on blackberries:

Browsing->Sprint->RIM->Internet
Browsing->Sprint->RIM->BES->Internet and Intranet



Curious, why did you company drop Good?

My company still offers a choice on Treo & BB. I had a 650 and many, many problems. The fact that Good wasn't integrated with the Palm OS was one thing that I believe led to many problems. It just acted up, in many different ways. More problems with the Palm OS, that made the whole solution very unreliable.

I've heard that those with the new Windows based Treos are having a better experience, but I wanted something reliable.

A couple of questions... so, all traffic routes through RIM? How can I tell where my web browser is routing?

If you can browse office intranet sites using intranet URLs or even intranet IP addresses, your browser is for sure routed through office BES.
