Default Planning BES upgrade

Please Login to Remove!

We want to upgrade from 3.x to 4 on the BES side and need to find a way to query the handhelds out there to determine if they are at the apppropriate version number for the upgrade.

We want to reduce the need for walkarounds if we can. I know that the MMC doesn't give any love. Are there any res kit tools out there?

Thanks for your help!

My apologies if there is an old thread out there on this. I did do a search before posting this but didn't find anything.

BB Server Manager will give you the version info, but of course you have to upgrade first to get the details. I have a number of users with pre 4.0 o/s on the BB and they work fine with the 4.0 BES. We just can't do wireless sync'ing with them. We are leaving them as is until they need new hardware. They are all over N.A.

I did see something on this forum that the user can send you a e-mail that would show the version they are running - something like "myver" (not correct, but similar) in the text of the e-mail. Anyone remember?

Yes! That's it - I forgot all about myver. Have the user type that and as soon as they hit the space bar they will get both their device model and handheld code version.

We still have ~40 people (out of 270) who haven't completed the Enterprise Activation since we upgraded the BES, and I have no way (except for old, outdated Asset records) to see what device/version they have. Excellent idea.

Where are you supposed to type that? Just in the main menu? Do you hold the ALT key while typing it?

Hey thanks for the responses

I think I'm going to approach it this way: Get some screenshots with instructions for users to send the ver info to us and we can take it from there... I figure we should nab about 80% of the users that way and do walk arounds for the rest. We just want to have the blackberries versioned to handle all the features of 4.

Well done!

Thanks again!

Grifter,
Have them compose a new e-mail to you. type myver and then the space bar. That will convert the info to the modal and version #. I just tried on mine and get 7100/4.0.0.219 Forgot earlier that you have to hit the sace bar.
Not sure if this works pre 4.0???
