Default Upgrade 8100

Please Login to Remove!

When I go to OPTIONS-ABOUT I see:
Wireless Handheld(Edge) v4.2.1.96

Does this means the ver I have?

What is the latest upgrade ver for pearl 8100?
How do I upgrade my pearl 8100 to the latest ver?

Yupp, that means your running OS 4.2.1.96

The latest OS for the 8100 can be found here, there are also detailed instructions on how to install the OS to your phone
The link for the OS on that thread will send you to RIM's site, where it asks all this stuff, no worries, just fill out the info and then you get the download

Nope, doesn't matter =)
As you go through that thread, it'll tell you to delete the "vendor.xml" file from your computer.
That files tells Desktop Manager not to install any OS to your phone that is not branded to your carrier... Once you delete that, all OS's become the same, and it wont harm your phone at all
I'm using that OS right now on my tmobile phone as well, and I haven't had any problems =)

When you delete that vendor file though, make sure that you delete it from the recycle bin as well, the first time I updated it still read that file it seemed, and I had to start all over because it said that the OS wasn't for my phone lol

Excellent question. The answer is <drumroll> nothing! I should qualify that: I'm not sure what the biggest memory card your os will take. If it takes a 4mb I don't thing you need to mess with it.

I'm agreeing.
I think the change was just little tweaks...
Something about text message issues (showing a x a lot) being "resolved"...
I also have heard some people say that battery life decreases with the upgrade (I wouldn't personally know because I never had 4.2.1.96)

If you aren't seeing any major problems with your phone, there's not really a need to upgrade other than curiosity. I'm sure all of us will say get 4.5 when it comes out, so if you want you could even wait until then! There's no actual date on that though.. sometime this year is about all anyone can say haha
