Default Third 9900

Please Login to Remove!

Hi folks,

I'm new to the forums but have used them a few times for issues in the past. Thanks to all the users for always having great input for fellow BB users!

I have just pulled my new Bold 9900 out of the box. This is my third unit since August, the previous ones all bricked up and were never able to be recovered. My warranty repair just keeps sending me new ones

What can I do preemptively, if anything, to keep this one running a bit better? Or do I just seem to be having the crappy luck of the draw with the 9900's? In previous instances there was no warning; the phone was working perfectly and simply checked out on me.

Thanks in advance!

Did they "brick" after upgrading the Operating System?

One before and one after. The first phone I didn't upgrade the OS at all. The second one, I did as soon as I was aware of an upgrade, and it still wound up freezing.

There are some published reports about devices bricking after an update. One of the reasons 7.1 isn't rolled out by all carriers...

So basically I'm better off not bothering with the OS upgrade. Damned if I do and damned if I don't I guess!

I'm still running the same version of 7.0 that was delivered on a 9900 I bought the week they went on sale. I simply haven't upgraded out of habit waiting for T-Mobile to release it. All things considered, I think if it is going to brick then it is going to brick no matter what you do. I would use the BlackBerry the way you need to use it.

You could always use Virgin's most recent official OS. Should be already installed with the phone. The problem with Bricking is we don't really understand why some phones do and others do not. Too many conflicting circumstances.

Bricking, as far as I am concerned is a Hardware/OS issue. I think you have been given faulty devices. Hopefully, this one is a keeper.

Definitely will. I noticed it came pushing the 2406 bundle so I did update that and it's running fine so far. Give me a day to wreck it-I mean- play with it!

I'm on 7.1.205 now and have gone through every single upgrade since August...no issues with most builds, although 7.1.190 had a random reboot issue, but that was about the only one that had it. Is bricking due to software, hardware or both? Not sure at this point...

Battery life has never really been better or worse, if I look back over the past 6 months...but some things have been improved over the many builds I've used. I also wipe before each install.

Battery life is definitely not an issue with this unit, not for me anyway. I have had BBs for several years now and I don't notice a faster drain at all. I do love the phone overall compared to my past ones. I hope this one holds out.

Well folks, I'm back! So far the only issue to report with Bold #3 is camera issues. It throws up the "Could not launch camera application, close other applications and then try again" fun error regularly, and the basic fix of closing apps *snort* doesn't fix anything. Pulling the battery works like a charm.

No other issues! Still enjoying it as much as ever

I went through 2 and on my third unit. First one had a charging problem, second had a bad audio jack and third one is fine except the plastic around the touchpad is slightly raised but not a biggie. Disappointed with the quality of these units but love it when I got one that was functionally working.

Got 7.1 beta on it and it's been pretty good.

A few people I know that got the same unit as me also had issues such as the touchscreen and trackpad. Really hope they improve future builds.

Oh and I've owned 9 blackberries prior and never had a problem.
