Smile Newb ?: 8700 for Nextel (8700i?).

Please Login to Remove!

Howdy, all . . . just registered a few minutes ago, searched (yes, i used the search fx prior to asking on a thread) on the related topic and couldn't find much.

Was curious if anyone knew or could point me towards a thread regarding the 8700 series for Nextel.

Thanks in advance!

No Such Horse available yet. What people have speculated is that they will be the last to get it because of the iDen network. But who knows. Others have said Verizon will be the last because they always deploy theirs last.

Or Nextel may never get the 8700. Sprint makes the call now and things will be changing in the next year.

Cool Thanks!

Very cool, looks like I have a chance at keeping my 7250 for a bit then. I use this thing so much day and night that learning that new predictive text with different keys would push me over the limit.

One can hope though!

Thanks!

?? The 8700 doesn't use predictive text... It has full QWERTY.

Don't expect a 8700i. The iDEN network won't take advantage of the 8700 features. I'd expect the 8700 to be on the CDMA side of Sprint.

Right, that's why i'm holding out from buying a 7100 . . . I"m assuming the 8700 does not have predictive text.

I'd almost prefer that. There are no penalties to transfer my contract from Nextel to Sprint (one in the same) and I'd love to get a network with better all around coverage, even by foregoing the PTT.

I just can't get all fuzzy about a Treo, so that'd be a viable solution for me.

Sprint still has the PTT (Ready Link) dont they? IF so then you can still have a PTT feature.

But you will need someone who has the same before you can use the PTT.

Now if SPrint could work out a thing with idens system to let PTT work with both Sprint and NEx . . . . . . what the hell am I thinking, we know that won't ever happen!

actually they are not very far away from this being a reality. Motorola in conjuction with qualcomm has developed a way to achieve this, they are just working out some stability and speed issues.

Word on the Q-Chat is allready working (inter company testing only) we should see something around the year 2008...........Also might see a Sprint/Nextel phone that uses CDMA (Sprint) for voice and data and iDEN (NEXTEL) for walkie-talkie (Direct Connect).

QChat is done. They demonstrated a conversation between a CDMA and iDEN device a while back. Sprint will release QChat on EVDO devices once Rev A is launched. There will be a gateway between the QChat and current iDEN phones at that time.
