Default OTA Questions

Please Login to Remove!

I have an application that makes use of 3 other library .cod files. I have deployed with the JavaLoader method up until now, sending all 4 files over at once. This works fine. Now i want to do OTA deployment, but i don't know how to deploy my app with its library files.

- do i just need to download all four files separate? (undesirable to end-user)
- can i specify all 4 files in some descriptor (.jad, .alx) and have it automatically grab all 4?
- can i package the libraries into the application .cod at compile time somehow?

Any help on this slightly specific issue would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance,
Loren

Not sure if this will do what you want, but check out the BlackBerry Application Web Loader.

It looks like .alx files do what i want (with library, and requires tags) but it looks like .alx files are only used with the desktop software (!). So, i guess the real question is "Can .jad files require libraries with some syntax?"

Still researching...

Yes. You specify the files in the JAD file. See the following article:

http://www.blackberry.com/knowledgec...00442&vernum=0

The key is to use the following listing format (get the size of each cod from the jad that is generated):

RIM-COD-URL-1: myLibrary.cod

RIM-COD-SIZE-1: 25000

RIM-COD-URL-2: myApp.cod

RIM-COD-SIZE-2: 55000

Also it is probably good practice to have the lib files downloaded and installed first (in case it fails).

Hope that helps.
