I use my bold as a hands free talking option as well as a digital music player in the car through the car's bluetooth stereo system. Today when I was driving listening to music I noticed the music stopped and after glancing over at my phone, I noticed it restarted. I have never had a problem with syncing my bold to the car but I have experienced a spontaneous reset twice in a row now after weeks of success. Also, after reset all the options are set back to factory standards; theme, font, etc. What does this mean?

This may be another case of a loose battery.

To test it, shake your BB around a bit, tap it lightly with your hand, etc. Does it reboot?

If so, remove the cover and put some paper, or tape, or a business card, or something like those on top of the battery so that the paper is between the battery and the cover when the cover is put back on. Now shake the BB around a bit, tap it lightly, etc. Does it reboot?

All this test is meant to accomplish is to narrow down the situation. Most random instantaneous reboot issue incidents have turned out to be loose batteries and/or covers. While this may spark discussion on quality control and manufacturing, etc., you can at least decide what to do based on the options available to you (return, exchange, live with it, etc.).

No, it's the memory card. Copy everything off the card to your PC, then use the BB to format the card. Then copy everything back.

You can test this by just removing the card and see if it's stable.

Good point. That's the first thing I do when installing a new memory card.

First I shook the phone just for easy results, after strong shakes, the phone did reset. Then I removed the media card to see if that is the cause. It was not. I shook it without the card and it rest. After adding a few business cards between the battery and cover as suggested, even after accidently dropping, the phone remains on. I feel I have found the problem but if not, I will respond to the thread. Thanks all for replies.

I actually just expierenced a random reboot last night. I was on my way home, and I was on the phone. I was holding it in my hand, but I was using the speaker phone. And while there was a break in the conversation, I was wondering why it was rather long. So I turned my phone over and i saw the white screen and the clock. After it rebooted and restarted everything but the theme and wallpaper was factory. Minor icons and folders, and about a dozen "Uncaught Exceptions" messages. So I just did a quick Alt-Cap-Del and after that reboot, everything has been fine since. I've never had a random reboot in the time that I've had my bold... anything I should be concerned with? Anything I should look out for?

EDIT: no loose battery or cover, and I have had only one memory card issue since I got it, and that was because I took it out of my WinMo phone and put it directly into my bold... but I've since formatted and recovered everything I needed on the card.

Multiple Java related error messages culminating in a factory setting (factory screen saver, no email accounts) on reboot have plagued my brand new 9000 as well. I'd be very happy to find the cause, since it can take as many as 3 tries to get it going again.

Upgrade the OS, or wipe and reinstall.
