Default OS Upgrade Symbol Delay?

Please Login to Remove!

I upgraded to OS v4.2 a few weeks ago, and most of the problems are minor. However, I am experiencing a significant delay when attempting to enter a symbol while texting. From the time I attempt to open the symbols menu to the time I scroll to the correct symbol and select it, the process takes at least 10-15 seconds!

Has anyone else experienced this? Any recommendations? I suppose this is akin to hurting a muscle that you never knew you used much - I didn't realize how important the symbols are until now.

I had this happen to me on my 8100. I believe it was only happening with certain versions of the 4.2 software. Try a couple of different versions to see if that fixes it.

Also, take a look and make sure you have a good amount of available memory.

Wirelessly posted (BlackBerry8703e/4.2.1 Profile/MIDP-2.0 Configuration/CLDC-1.1 VendorID/104)

Thank you. My memory is AOK, so it must be the OS version. I dl'd my version from this forum. Can anyone post links to multiple versions of the OS? I really don't want to change the OS over one feature, but I've had to avoid symbols altogether.

Thanks.

When you say "AOK" what does that mean? How much free memory do you have?

That's only 6Mb...you're memory is NOT AOK....All devices are susceptible to this behaviour when memory gets that low.

I recommend this:

Thank you. The free space is now at 11MB, but the symbols are still just as slow. Any ideas? What would be the target memory? My thought is still that memory is not the issue because nothing else is running slow. However, I'm learning everyday, so who knows?
