Default Assign a silence function to a key

Can I assign a silence function to a key such that I can turn the ringer on and off easily? If not, what is the fastest way to silence and re-enable the ringer (Without going through the Profiles)?

What model BlackBerry do you have? That will help... Most have a speaker symbol with a line through it on the top right/left that can be used to silence the ringer. It does not need to be turned back on... it's only lasts for that call.

8320 (T-Mo). The top-of-the-phone button with a speaker symbol is assigned to do something else. I suppose there's a way to change that?

You're probably referring to a vibrate/silent shortcut that you can use, kind of like when you hold "#" down on most other phones to put it into vibrate/silent. I'd like to know the answer to this too.

There's no such option on the Curve unfortunately.

How about a shortcut button to lock the keypad? Is there one?

None that are inherent to the device, but I use one of my customizable hot keys on the sides f the device to lock mine.

That's bad news. The 8100 has it.

The beautiful new Jav 8900 has one! It is hidden from prying eyes and it is on the phone's body

K will lock the keypad if you have Dial From Home Screen disabled. F will take you to the Profile selection screen. Probably your best bets for both.
