Default Instant messaging and alternatives [a real discussion]

Please Login to Remove!

Hi all,

Like everyone else i have a laundry list of gripes with the installed 7100t AIM/ Yahoo/ ICQ client:
*No notification control (noisy!)
*One service at a time
*You have to pay to use it

I tried verichat.

I have to say, I was a little disappointed. It was a great, well written application, but there were a few glaring flaws.
*Signs on/off constantly
*Misses messages
*Expires! :P

So, what's the best solution? Anyone? Bueller?

IMHO Verichat is the choice. It does expire, but the yearly fees are not onerous. It's the best product out there, and the developers are continually improving it. It's also the easiest to use. I have tried:
-BerryVine Messenger (too hard to use, too sloooowwww!)
-Blackchat (free, but only works for ICQ)
-WebMessenger ( good, but most expensive)
-MiMessenger (too hard to use)
and Verichat always came out on top!

There is another program IM+ Messenger( or something like that) ( I have been told it's quite limited) but I have not tried it.

Hope this helps

That's my issue as well. My buddies keep asking what the heck is wrong with me. On MSN messenger they keep getting a little pop-up window every time I log in and out and it's driving them nuts.

you do? if you mean that it uses your available SMS/text messages, then read a bit more on this forum and you will find an alternative to that.

I've really enjoyed this: http://www.shapeservices.com/eng/im/implus.php

I use the bes version but they have the same app in a wap version. Has worked very well for me.

Can anyone confirm that the WAP version of IM+ is stable on the 7100g? Verichat isn't doing it for me. Love the interface. Love the profile/alert settings. Love everything about it, except that it logs me in and out all day, constantly changing my away status etc...

IM+ seems to be a good alternative. Does it have all the nice features of Verichat? Can it keep you logged in all day, notify you of alerts (without SMS), and all the other goodies?

WebMessenger was my IM program of choice, but they are having issues with the notification on the 7100 series (response from an email I sent them), and loading it using Desktop 4.0 with the newest Cingular handheld software.

I installed Verichat, and would probably pay for it if it can show me an away status icon for buddies that are idle. WebMessenger half lit the buddy icon and had '(away)' next to the icon.

Does verichat do the same?

I am heavy IM user, I used to have Sidekick II and love their AIM service. However I decided to tranfer to blackberry because other many reasons. I have tested many different IM programs, and so far I am satisfied with WebMessenger. Reason, it does keep connect for a long time. And it even tell you if it get disconnected. I usually use MSN and AIM running at the same time, and I talked to Webmessenger Support, and they are pretty good at response quickly. I used Verichat, and yes, they are great with interface, but not very reliable with connection. IM+ does works okay, they do keep connection, but not quick messenge, I tested it with my other pager, compare to Webmessenger. I also tested Yak-on!, I liked their tabs on conversations, but they sure eat battery, and connection not always reliable either. I am working on BerryVine Messenger, and having hard time to make connection. I also plan to work on Causerie Messenger. If you are heavy user for MSN and AIM (Dunno about yahoo and ICQ status) I will recommend Webmessenger (Have 30 days trial). If you are only use AIM I would use Ramble IM (they are okay with connection and are FREE.)

Hope this will help answer your questions.
