Default New to Blackberry, trying to set up corp mail

Please Login to Remove!

Hi folks - Just purchased my first BB (8330 from Verizon). Installed the software today at work (Northrop Grumman) and then put in a ticket for an Enterprise Activation Password. I was called later in the afternoon from a tech who said that I could only get a password if I was authorized by my management (believe me, wont happen)...this would be a great productivity tool; I work four days a week and the plant never shuts down...Mondays are quite heavy trying to catch up on emails.

I'm a Property Administrater (not a manager) and was told that even though I have the phone I will not be able to access my email on the fly. I'm paying for the service...Makes no sense!!!!

unfortunately theres nothing you can do.
if you are not authorized in your company to activate the device, thats it.

I would imagine that Northup Grumman has some very, very serious security measures in place for all their data and computer systems ... for good reason, wouldn't you agree?

If, on the outside chance, you can access your email through Outlook Web Access, you might be able to add your email that way. But with a company such as NG, you would be well advised to stay WELL within their parameters.

Perhaps if you explain your situation to your management, you might get activated. However, you should also be aware that activating a personal device on a corporate BES is typically not recommended. If you do so, your employer will be able to see ALL your data and messages.

Edited to add: I ride a Honda Shadow Aero.

Sent you a couple of PM's with links to my bike...couldn't link here yet until I get to 10 replies.

I've been with the company for 20 years this December and eleven with the Navy prior to that...I've been around secret and top secret stuff so for long I tend to forget about the security issues.

one other thing, at my company, the corporate office charges each location $20/month per account for the BES account. That could be an issue also.

Well that's a rip-off since each BES license is a one time purchase cost, and not a monthly recurring fee.

thats true, but perhaps they are trying to re-coup the cost of having it in the first place?

I doubt that's an issue for Northup Grumman.

Typical bean-counter idea, charging users to recoup a couple of bucks towards the thousands the company spends on BlackBerrys. Sad, really.

One way to keep the activations down.

For the OP, if it is your personal device, you are probably better off not connecting to the corporate BES. NGC tends to really down their devices so all you can do is what they allow you to do and they track usage. Being a Federal contractor working with both classified and unclassified programs, they sort of have to.

Depends on how you look at it... We charge $100.00 Per User, Per Year for BES connectivity. With that money: we pay for the devices purchased for the BES Admin to test with, we pay for 3 evaluation units and their monthly carrier fees, we pay for Server hardware upgrades, and we pay for our BES maintenance and support yrly contract. We're thinking of raising it to $120 a year.
