Default Some Newbie Questions: "There must be a way to..."

Please Login to Remove!

Couple of basic questions I haven't been able to find the answers to (and I just keep thinking there must be a way...)

1. Is there any key I can hold (like the alt key or the esc key) that would force the Blackberry to lock without me having to scroll to the lock icon? I found the ALT-RETURN locks but that takes two hands.

2. Is there a way to quickly jump to the app without having to scroll to it? Say typing in the first letter of the app name or something like that?

3. Is there some way to skip the double select for things like following a link in a web browser or opening an email? I would think that if I select an email, I can have it just open, instead of asking to open or giving me a menu at that point. (I can see why not too but...)

4. Is there any way to sync address books, tasks, and memos? Or any plans?

Thanks.

1. I set it to lock when inserted into the holster so I don't have to do key presses to lock the keyboard.
2. Check out Mark's shorcuts at: http://www.blackberryforums.com/viewtopic.php?t=19
3. I Don't know.
4. Yes with the desk manager you can sync all three. If you have BES you can do more over the air too.

Thanks barjohn!

1. Unfortunately, I don't use the holster. Don't like things clipped to my belt...
2. I've looked at Mark's BlackBerry Tips, Tricks, and Keypress Shortcuts. It's awesome! I love it and I learned a lot, but there's no mention of how to jump to apps by hitting keys...
3. Thanks anyway.
4. I do sync with desk manager but thought there would be something like the calendar sync for all the other items. I'll have to find out more about BES.

Thanks very much for your help!

With 4.0, web browser links can be clicked by holding the trackwheel and not having to double click. Unfortunately emails can't though :(

If you go into your phone options, and turn off "Dial From Home Screen" then you can lock the screen by pressing the "k" key. Likewise if you want to go to another application you can press "a" for address book. If you need to figure out what the shortcut key is for an application scroll over it and whatever letter is underlined, then you can use that key to jump to that application.
Hope that helps

That's if you've opened those apps, right? It's like the windows ALT+Tab key. I think scotth answered my question.

Is it possible to hold down the ALT key and make it "sticky"? The ALT+Scroll requires two hands. I'm a big one-handed user (from my Treo 600 days). I'm also ambidextrous and use my left hand a lot to hold the Blackberry and find that the scroll wheel is a little awkward to use with the left hand...

I use my left hand as well, but yes, it does take two hands to multi task with the BB.
