Default Pearl 8110: Camera Quality is very poor

Please Login to Remove!

I love this phone, I really do. It has everything I could ever need in a device but one thing really niggles at me and thats the camera quality.

And i'm talking about simple shots taken outside in great light conditions.

Firstly, this phone is very sensitive to hand movements, and you will find many blurred photos in your collection because of it. You really have to try hard to keep this phone still considering you have to flinch your finger to take the photo, I have increased the amount of unblurred pictures four fold by using the enter key to take the shot but it is still difficult to get the shot you want.

Secondly, the quality of any shot is really poor. If you set the camera options to Large (1600 x 1200) and superfine I find that the picture is blocky once you zoom in a few stages....for a two megapixel camera this is poor.

Does anyone else find that there 8110 camera is like this? I used to own a Curve 8320 and the camera was perfect on that, and before that I owned a Pearl 8100 (which I might add is a 1.3mpx) and that camera was much better than the 8110.

Wirelessly posted (8130)

You might try an OS upgrade. There were some camera fixes in other 81XX phones in 4.5 OS.

I have been using an 8110 for almost 20 days after 16 months using a Curve and I love this Pearl, EXCEPT FOR THE CAMERA. It really sucks. The resulting pictures are indeed blocky, they only look good if you use the highest resolution and... shrink them a bit when viewing them so as to hide the awful pixelation. Some of the pictures actually look like oil paintings. Shameful.

I am currently using 4.5.0.110, which was released a lot later than the two posts above, so I don't think that software upgrades will ever fix it. RIM must have fitted some lousy lens on this model. What a shame. Excellent phone in all other aspects.
