I have Date/Time Source set in my 8700 to Network. Yet the handset doesn't stay synced with the network whether I'm in my home area or another part of the country or world.

Anybody know if there's a fix for this?

eljefe, are you still troubled by this? If so, can you be more descriptive? Are you saying the network time drifting when you think it shouldn't be changing; or is it that the blackberry's time display is changing? Does it seem to happen only after you sync with outlook or whatever?

I believe the poster is saying that his time is not adjusting to the timezone in which he is lcoated, when he travels from one timezone to another.

BlackBerrys do NOT automatically make that adjustment, you must do it manually.

aiharkness...yes, it's still happening. It's not that big a deal, but it is a curiosity and minor annoyance.

Network time is correct, but the 8700's own time drifts. It doesn't sync to network time.

If I change time zones (which I do a lot) the 8700 never changes time in sync with the new network time. I know that doesn't always happen depending on the network, but it never happens on my 8700.

I have a Moto V3xx and it typically syncs to the network, wherever I happen to be. My Blackberry, in the same location as the V3xx, never syncs to network time. I'm just wondering why. Both phones are at&t.

Correct you are JSanders. That is what I was asking. I read the FAQ but missed that answer. Thanks for pointing it out.

However, the FAQ seems to have a contradiction. The first paragraph says Blackberry's don't sync to network time. The second paragraph says:

Network - Synchronizes the time with your service provider's local network time.

Seems like a Blackberry shortcoming. Fortuantely, as I said, it's not that big a deal.

I understand that appears to be a contradiction, probably more like bad wording. I will adjust that. By time, I do believe it refers to minutes, not time.

I've never had a problem with my Motorola phone because of some time zone vagary. Truth is, I'm ok with my Blackberry staying on my home time zone so I don't have to be doing the math in my head all the time. But I wish the handset would sync with local time at home, rather than drifting off a few minutes every so often.

Maybe "good" wasn't the right word. Let's say there are reasons. The blackberry is not a phone. It is a specialized device that has cell phone functionality. My point was that it isn't broken, and RIM didn't screw up.

For what it's worth, look at setting time zone in your calendar and task entries according to the time zone where the appointment or task occurs, then manually change the time zone in options when you travel in the different time zone. Just remember to set it back before you sync PIM info with a computer.

At least it did fall back off DST this morning.

A lot of people want it that way. Then a lot of people like it the way it is, too. I'm pleased that for you it isn't that big a deal. And seriously, look at utilizing the time zone setting in calendar and tasks. It can be very helpful. One example is say you have conference calls scheduled in other time zones. Don't do the math in your head, just enter the times as given to you and whatever time zone, and let the blackberry do the conversion. The times shown in your calendar will be in your time zone.

That won't work for me. I'm a corporate pilot. I rarely know in advance where I'll be on a given day at a given time. And any and all of my entries are synced to OWA via my company's BES.

As for some wishing it were different and some liking it the way it is....that's what options are for.

What's up with it adjusting to DST but not allowing us to use network time on the display??

I'm an airline pilot and travel quite a bit as well. While the time zone adjust would be nice, it's not that big of a deal.

Yep, it works for me. Many times I don't even change my timezone on my BB. I use my BFCPW (big friggen complicated pilot's watch.)

blackberry has a dst patch on there website. download it then install it. it will fix the whole wrong time thing.

I'm too lazy to even do that..... Fortunately, I usually only have a few times zones to play with. MD80 can only go so far.......
