Lightbulb Clean install VS backup & Restore install

Please Login to Remove!

Here is a question for you berry flashers...

Does anyone feel that there is a performance difference when you do either of the following. Assume in both scenarios it is the same OS.

Clean install: Install a new OS, customize it again via the menus and do NOT restore settings from the previously installed os

OR

Install and Restore: Install a new OS and allow the apploader to restore from backup all your settings and whatnot.

I am a sysadmin and I (when dealing with Windoez (sic)) ALWAYS believe in a clean install vs the system restore, etc.

Thanks for your input in advance!

You do gain some small additional memory from a clean install, vs. a restore. Not much.

If you want it cleaner, wipe, then install the OS, and install third party apps and settings fresh from new downloads.

For performance, I don't think it really makes a difference--I have not noticed a significant performance difference, and I have done it all three ways.

How to wipe the OS from a BlackBerry device? - BlackBerryFAQ - Wipes data from the device (and third party apps in the newer OS)

Welcome to the forums. BlackBerry FAQ - BlackBerryFAQ is a fantastic resource in addition to this site.

Also you can use JL commander (How do I wipe the BlackBerry using Jl Cmder? - BlackBerryFAQ) to wipe everything from the device period.

Curveme, your posts really do not add at all to this forum. In fact quite the opposite. Shape up or ship out.

How was his post "whoring"? He was just reiterating the answer to the OP's question (which was on topic unlike your post).

This comment was way out of line!

Dang, I saw that too.

But at least they didn't include your livestock in the new law, my goats would have been pissed!

I found that wiping the device clean helped by freeing some memory when a upgraded from beta .42 to .46

I did restore certain aspects of the device such as messages, and contacts.
