Default mystery bbm message

Please Login to Remove!

Last night I received a mystery bbm message on my tour.

The message showed up in my bbm as coming from one of the parties in my bbm friends list. This is a person I bbm with a lot, every day. I confirmed with the person that the message was never sent from their phone as the message does not show up when reviewing our conversation on his/her phone. Additionally, I have the persons word that he/she did not send the message.

Is there any way to send a BBM message from anything other than the BB that the BBM account is activated on?

This entire situation is bothering me a lot.

-Frank

What was the message? Was it a string of random numbers like 3727721301237 for example?

No. It was plain english, two words that are very normally used in combination.

That is very strange. I've received strange bbm's before that were just a string of random numbers. I just guessed it was a hiccup in the RIM servers. It could be very possible, although very unlikely, that it was just a mix up in the RIM servers with delivery.

Ehh, accidentally delivering a message to the wrong person doesn't seem like a reasonable scenario, but thanks for the comments.

I'm more concerned about the security of the BBM function. Perhaps I need to use something else for chatting if it's not secure.

I don't have or know of any evidence to suspect BBM.

Is it even remotely possible that someone else sent the message and then closed the chat? That is my first guess.

Sounds to me like somebody got a hold of your buddy's BB and sent a quick message. Maybe they were just trying it out, poking around and hitting keys, and stumbled upon BBM. A couple of clicks on the trackball can open a conversation or compose a PIN message. Deleting it after sending would cover the tracks and could also have been done by someone just "demo-ing" the feature.

The chat is still open with the user I got the message from. I chat with this person a everyday.

What's really got me stumped is the message shows up on my blackberry messenger as coming from person XYZ, but on person XYZ's phone, there is no evidence in his/her bb messenger that the message was every sent. The conversation history on XYZ's phones simply doesn't show this message, which would lead me to believe it was sent from another source.

Beats the heck out of me. I imagine RIM would be real interested. If it were me, I'd keep both chat's open, call your service provider, ask for blackberry support, tell them what happened, and go from there. Don't let anyone put you off, and insist on an answer.
