Default My BB still thinks its Canadian!?

Please Login to Remove!

I purchased my BB 8700g from SingTel a week ago. The time zone has been set correctly etc etc, but when I point the internet browser at Google I get sent to the Canadian Google home page. How weird is that! This and my current connectivity problems suggest that SingTel has screwed up the service books that it pushes to the 8700g. Older moldel BB's from SingTel don't have the Google and connectivity issues.

Use http://www.google.com/ncr which is the no country redirect webpage for google.

Thanks! What I'm curious about is why the browser automatically looks for the Canadian Google.

digitus,

Are you on a BES? could the BES be located in Canada?

Google looks at the registered country of your IP address. Your APN is in Canada.

Clear your content and cookie caches on the device and see if that helps.

No it didn't. I'm starting to think that my service books are screwed up. After 1.5 weeks of trying SingTel still hasn't been able to figure out why I the IM clients don't work on my 8700g. And my BES admin in Amsterdam doesn't know why I can't access the intranet.

Accept it. Resistance is futile.

I agree with Canuck. You have been assimilated. Why not ask google your question? does it really matter what google site you go to?

Just scroll to the bottom of the google.ca page and pick the "go to Google" link and you will switch to the google.com.

Most Blackberry web traffic goes through RIM's servers, and RIM is based (and has its server physically located) in Canada, hence google.ca. Bookmarking the NCR is the best solution.

I have a similar but more annoying situation. When I do a google search for a business, it sometimes shows a couple of google maps as the first links. This would be very useful, but when I click on the link it takes be to google maps Canada and never loads the image. The odd part is that even if a web page hard links some google maps that work fine on my PC, the same ones on my BlackBerry redirect and to google Canada and then never load the images or maps.

Really quite shabby in my opinion since most other features work great including stand alone google maps (which I would use but doesn't do searches as well in some situations).

Edit: Okay, I was able to get it to not use google maps Canada by changing to /ncr but it still doesn't load the map image. Must be some BlackBerry limitation or how the map is sent from the server.
