I'm running Rogers v4.2.1.109 on a year-old Pearl 8100 with no bluetooth disconnect problems. I often have it on for 30+ minute calls with multiple headset brands and also sync and backup by bluetooth. I've gone through multiple OS upgades and never noticed any issues.

Perhaps it is hardware specific?

Well, just took a quick roadtrip for the first time with 4.2.1.109, and sure enough the bluetooth GPS still hangs intermittently.

So I'm wondering, is this a straight up software problem, or is there some hardware element to this? I'm so frustrated with my complete inability to use bluetooth GPS for reliable navigating on my 8100 pearl, that I'd be willing to swap it out for a new 8100 if there is any chance of a hardware swap fixing it.

Or am I SOL until 4.5 comes out?

How can blackberry screw up something as fundamental as bluetooth? Arrg! lol

It is purely a software problem. I can prove this as I have an 8700v that originally was on 4.1 with no issues but upgraded to 4.2 and now seeing them (we have a lot of BlackBerry's here and have seen the same on ones upgraded from 4.2.0 to higher versions and develop the problem).

That being said though I have had a batch of BlackBerry's come from the same provider with the same software on and had some that work fine and others that have an issue every single time you try and use bluetooth so getting it swapped out "might" land you one that is working ok.

I still have not found anyone that actually knows what is causing the problem though (most likely because it is so intermittent and random). So far testing with a couple of different versions of 4.3 on a curve (that has the problems in 4.2.1+) it hasn't had any issues so hopefully it has been fixed (though not seen it officially listed as a fix anywhere).

Working for a company that develops and supports bluetooth products (mainly for BB users) this bug is a massive PITA for me

If you can find it for your BB try upgrading to 4.3, if you have a pearl 4.2.0 has no bluetooth issues but I believe it lacks some fairly useful features that came in later.

Thanks for the verification that this is indeed software. I'll keep waiting for 4.5 to be released. I have a copy of 4.2.0 on my computer just in case I need to install it for a trip, but I'm hoping I can just wait out the next OS release.

8310 with 4.2.2.184 (Platform 2.5.0.40)

Trying to pair/connect with a Sony DRC-BT15, everything works fine if I turn off Radio (Mobile network); The moment I turn the Radio on, the connection is terminated, no A/V Remote control, no handsfree

Default Curve not connecting to Macbook OS

I have a Curve 8830 CDMA, v4.3.0.124 and tried several times to Bluetooth to my Macbook.

Curve finds Macbook and pairs no problem and accepts it as a paired device.

Macbook finds Curve and pairs no problem but will not connect.

Tried multiple times and confirmed all passwords are correct.

Anyone have suggestions?

Hello all,

My problem is with my Pearl 8100t. I've searched and searched and have tried many different things. The only solution I found to my specific problem is to take it back to T-Mobile and exchange it for a new one.

So here's the problem. Whenever I connect to any Bluetooth device, it pairs during setup, but within a matter of seconds, the connection is dropped. This happens between my GPS unit, headsets, computers, etc...

I've tried resetting my phone to factory settings using JL_Cmder, and when that didn't work, I tried wiping it completely. That didn't fix the solution either.

I haven't had problems in the past, but they started recently after I paired up my Jawbone headset. I no longer use the headset, but noticed that it was the only Bluetooth device that would give me problems (connection would drop in the middle of a call, voice dial function didn't work, volume button would redial last call, etc). Needless to say, I've deleted that device from my phone and threw that POS headset away (R.I.P. Benjamin Franklin).

In the attached screenshots, the only device (told you I completely wiped my Pearl!) is my iMac named "jO3Design". Not sure, but I do remember seeing something like "Connect Device" in the options setting for my devices in the past. As you can see in the screenshot below, that option is nowhere to be found now.

I'm going crazy over this issue, and I wish it was as simple as disabling my Bluetooth and re-enabling it. Or pulling my batter and putting it back in. Or deleting all BT devices from my phone and re-adding them. Or re-installing the latest OS on my phone. Or disabling and then enabling the LED coverage indicator light.

Been there. Done that. Someone PLEASE tell me that I have an alternative to having to send my phone in to get a new one.

Screenshots attached.

Thanks all in advance,

Joe

4.2.1.189 was on the device, but before that was 4.2.1.107.

I didn't have any issues with the previous version 4.2.1.107, and even after I installed 4.2.1.189 I didn't have any BT issues. This just started happening recently.

4.2.1.189 = 4.2.1.109

There's not much difference between .109 and .107. Good that you downgraded back to the TMo release. When enlisting their help you'll need that. There have been many issues with Bluetooth in 4.2.1 so these issues aren't surprising.

What device are you trying to connect? What model GPS or headset? I'm not sure we can be much help, anyway. You sound like you know how to pair your BT devices, enter the passkey and set them as trusted. Once that's done, they should connect normally. Even with 4.2.1 I never had issues with standard bluetooth headsets. I had lots of troubles with my GPS units, though.

It pretty much sounds like I have to replace my unit.

I don't know what happened, but I can't keep a connection active with ANY device any more. More recently the Deluo Bluetooth GPS receiver or my iMac, which I had no problem connecting to previously.

I got my phone almost a year ago, so I hope tmo customer service doesn't give me any trouble.

there probably isn't a hidden bluetooth feature or settings list anywhere, is there?

thanks for your response, though!

No, no hidden settings. I would give them a call and let them troubleshoot from their end. If they replace it you'll get a refurb'd unit.

Default Curve 8300

Curve 8300 on AT&T using 4.2.2.166. Using Motorola H700 Bluetooth headset. On a regular basis, when trying to use voice dial the phone gets stuck at "initializing.." Is this part of this problem or a separate problem? Any help appreciated.

Has anyone tried substituting the current net_rim_bluetooth.cod with the one from the 4.2.0? I am continually frustrated with the failures of my GPS puck and my otherwise great BB Curve.

Wirelessly posted (BB 11020)

Make a backup, 3rd parties too. Try it. Worst case, you JL_Cmder it and reload.

I have a Motorola IHF1000 hands free device in my car and a BB8703e with OS 4.2.1.110 (platform 2.3.0.24) with Verizon as my carrier. I can pair my BB with the car's hands free device manually and everything works properly, but the BB won't pair automatically. It's getting very old pairing it manually everytime I get into the car. I asked co-workers who have BB's that automatically pair with their cars and both had 4.1.xx OS. I tried an old Sprint 8703e BB with 4.1.0.xx OS and it pairs automatically (it has other issues and can't be used on a regular basis). This all seems consistent with this thread. I followed the link in post #8 to try to obtain an older OS, but Verizon only lists the current release. (I should also mention this is a corporate device, but my local IT guy is willing to try to backdate the OS if I can find one)

2 questions if I may:
-I assume I need Verizon OS for my BB since they're my carrier?
-Any ideas as to where I might be able to obtain an older Verizon OS for my 8703e?

Thanks

This is interesting.

I was reading through this thread for a few pearls of wisdom (please pardon the pun) when I came across your posts, StuartV.

I have a brand-new Verizon Wireless Curve with 4.3.0.127 on it, and a Jawbone. After a while, Bluetooth services on the 8330 would just stop and I'd have to go start them again manually--and even more irritating is that I would find out that the Bluetooth service had stopped on the 'Berry by hearing my ringing phone and not my ringing headset.

Now I did have the blue "anti-collision" Bluetooth indicator light off because it's obnoxiously bright and distracting on the 8330. But I'll turn it back on and see what happens...

Now only a pilot would refer to that as the "anti-collision" bluetooth indicator light! I love it.
