Default unable to activate 7230 but can on 7290 with same sim?

Please Login to Remove!

Having an issue activating a 7230 on a 4.0 bes. I have both an unlocked 7230 from t-mobile and an unlocked 7290 from orange. Cingular SIM

The 7230 was using the web client. I called cingular and had them remove the web client. I then wiped the 7290 (I have upgraded the handheld to 4.0+). Then I tried to activate it. It will then just sit there at the Activating prompt. After about 30 minutes it will try 3 times and come back and fail. I tried this 3 different times and all the same problm.

I then slipped the SIM into the 7290 from orange (this BB has never been setup on web client) Clicked activate and it went through the setup with no problems.

Is this an issue with the 7230 or with Cingular not getting the BB off the web client?

thanks in advance

Does the 7230 show GPRS? One key difference between the 7230 and 7290 is that the 7290 has the 850 MHz GSM/GPRS band (for Cingular). I am guessing that if you are in a 850 only area, the 7230 won't be able to get onto the GPRS/BB data network.

nope I do have GPRS.

Its not a signal issue, as the BB was setup on the webclient previously.

maybe the device is marked as a prosumer device and not a bes device.
call t-mobile give them the pin of the device; they should change it

Even if it has the web client it should still work. Sounds like there could be a issue with the mail account your trying to attach to or the device itself. I had the same issue and moved the exchange account to another server which cleared out some corrupt mail files and then it started working.
