FYI, Telenav now has a version of their software that works in the US as well as Europe. I am in London and it certainly displays local maps, does routing and even knows a few POIs.

If you have a need, write them directly and they can send you the OTA link.

Also, this version does cause an error on boot for me, so I don't think I would install unless I needed the European functionality.

The TeleNav Maps is a free application. Once you download it, you can use it, as is, free. But if you want the GPS part (for Pearl), you have to pay $89 for the GPS "puck" and then the unlimited GPS plan costs another 9.99 per month.

I was a little suprised by the push to download - it seems a little tacky for Cingular to do that. It would have been better if they sent a PIN message or something announcing it and giving you the option to download from there.

I just downloaded this onto my 8800 and also saw the error on reboot. But as was stated earlier, OK to the error and all seems to be well. Am leaving for Paris tomorrow and will give it a good shakedown during the next week.

I'm happy to report that Telenav works perfectly on the 8800 in Paris and London. Easily navigated to my hotels and other POI. BB maps also worked for me in London without changing anything.

When I followed the link to the Telenav post it stated that "The International edition is only available for users who are billed through TeleNav, Inc through your credit card." Do you know if there is anyway around this or if I can switch my Cingular billing over to Telenav direct? I'm heading to France in a couple of weeks and would love to be able to use this app as I'm on the unlimited International Data plan...

I not certain that your unlimited int'l data plan covers this use. Should check with CS to know for sure. I used my 8800 a lot in France (mail, web browsing, IM, txt msg, and of course GPS) and have additional data charges on my bill.

Thanks for the heads up - I will check with CS, but according to the Cingular website the BlackBerry International Data Plan description says:

"Use your BlackBerry device to send and receive unlimited e-mail in the U.S. and around the world in 125 countries."

I did check before signing up for the pkg that France was one of those other 125 countries, so if email is unlimited which is 'data', then I would think using the GPS feature which is also 'data' should be one and the same?

Back to my original question - Is your Telenav account direct with Telenav? If so, is that how you've always had it or did you switch it over from Cingular to Telenav?

Email is not data....and data is not included in the international pkg. Be careful! Yes, my Telenav account is with them, not Cingular. Never had it with Cingular.

It's been a while since I was on here (my life would be great if it wasn't for all the work getting in the way)...

Just wanted to refresh this topic as I did travel through France for over 2 weeks with my BB8100 and used TeleNav constantly. Upon my return I got my bill from Cingular and there were no extra data charges for my Internet/TeleNav use while there. Therefore I would say that the International Blackberry Plan includes not only email but unlimited Data as well.

BTW - TeleNav was fantastic for touring around. I did over 1200km during the week and a half I was in the south of France and it was a life-saver - "Enter Roundabout and take the 3rd exit" is so much easier than going in circles, trying to read street signs, watching for cars entering/exiting the roundabout all while listening to your wife tell you your going the wrong way. I also used it in Paris using "Pedestrian" as the method for determining the route.

All around I'm a happy camper with my 8100/TeleNav
