On the slide itself it should say lock/unlock with an arrow. move the clip in the direction to unlock. Lift it up and place the sim card underneath it. Then lay down the clip and slide to lock again.

MAKE SURE you are putting the SIM card in the SIM card area and NOT where the memory card goes.

Sorry but this has to be said!

My sprint phone came with the sim card in it already. Mine goes in the corner and has no flip/lock mecanish, it just slides in.

The slot in the middle of the phone is for the memory card only.

Sprint normally doesn't have SIM cards. You have the 8830 "world edition" That is why there is a sim in your device. CDMA devices (sprint/verizon) don't use SIM cards.

Miss Teen SC, is that you?

Just kidding - I'm a newbie, too. Not that much of a newbie, though.

Folks,
just for the record...if you have a VZW blackberry 8830 world edition, the SIM card is not inserted where you see the words lock/unlock (that's for the SD card). Just next to that slot is a small metal plate where the SIM card goes...and it is recommended to have the battery off when doing this.

Anyone who has just purchased a 8830 W/E from VZW will need to call their CS department and have them ship you the SIM card....before they can setup you phone for World email, dialing etc..etc.

...I'm just going through this right now...so I thought I'd clear the air for any future VZW customers. Also, they recommended upgrading my firmware to the August 2007 release (which is said to fix some issues for those using your VZW phone overseas).

Enjoy!

That's weird, did you buy the Curve outright with no contract? Did you have a BB before?
